FD came off to me as a big orgy of corporate sponsorship. I didn't not-like it. The best drift event I've ever gone to was the exhibition D1GP and RS*R drift day. D1 was absolutely wild and not even the second one was as wild as it was.

I agree wholly with Weapon X.

Too bad what is asked of for drifting can never happen.... unless it is amateur events.

D1? Judging in D1 is biased. Anything that is judged is biased... and can sometimes be unfair.

And before someone goes off on a rant or discussion about this, please try to think about it from the other side of the event. Consider it from the perspective of the drivers. We all had a blast.

i preferred the february d1 setup by far, all the cars away and the vendor tents all lined up nicely.

the judging was a joke, and then the judges crashed into eachother, comeon that seriously calls into question their judgement. i cheered rhys millen like crazy, that car is built to the letter of the rules and f*cking rocks, but hubinettes viper is tube frame, i have a problem with that. Everybody cheered the supra but honestly i dont think it deserved a spot anywhere near that high. he did well against alex and that was it, before his last battle i was far from impressed.

i was appalled at the 10$ parking, it ended up costing me 35 dollars to get in... plus another 5 to keep from dehydrating.

i honestly didnt mind the advertising on the video when nothing was going on, but during the competition i wish it wasnt in that little corner.

I said the exact same thing about calvin though, wow he's really something to fear now.

for me to go again they need

        security that arent c*cks.
        judges that can judge.
        a new announcer.
        cheaper ticket or free parking.
ditch the music, not everyone likes rap or hip hop.
ill be hoenst with myself,i liked the pretty girls.
        did i mention better judges?
        better organization.

btw what kind of purse is there for the winners, i hope some of that money goes to the drivers

but as far as how much it cost, i fully planned to buy a shirt from you and didnt cause i was so angry about the money i had already spent, and as for the judging, you know your fd deserved better...

yah, i dont want to sound like a whiner, but yah they should have let ross go again, especially when he was doing so well when he led the tandem, and had to adjust his line last minute because he almost crashed. They seemed to let everyone else go again...

as for the shirt lol damn, i shoulda given you my extra pass thanks for showing support.

Alex as in Alex Chang or Alex from Texas? Well we are absolutely stoked for the drivers... we were there for you guys. If I just took it for just watching the driving then I would have been satisfied. Unfortunately it's next to impossible with everything that was going on. I am looking towards the future with these events and well... I'm not impressed.

The US drivers are getting better and better. I think grassroots events like Just Drift and Drift Day are a good outlet for the drivers. D1 2003 was by far the best event. Sold out and less bling more driving.

Yes all judging is sometimes biased, but yesterday was not judging.

This is only MY opinion though. I just wanted to see what other people thought.

              Alex Chang...

The way I see it is this: the judges can judge however they see fit. The qualifying rounds they emphasized on speed, rather than drifting the banked portion of the oval.

The rules for tandem were already distributed before in Houston and Sonoma, but the rules are not the same as D1...

As for any judging controversies... there always will be these things when it comes to judged competitions. From my vantage point, the judging was fine. One of the rules laid out by Seigo was that any contact with barrier would be scored zero; especially contact that was caused by you (and not another car in tandem).

But like any competition you have to try to talk to judges to understand the rules... some drivers did, some didn't.

People that paid can *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored* all day about the event itself, about the car show, about the price, about commercials... but without knowing a lot of the details, at least to me it seems like hot air is being passed around.

You know a lot of drivers are really confused by the rules...they are told to not do one thing, yet it's okay to do it. is it perhaps lost in translation???

I agree with a few of the points made about Formula D, but not all. We knew that the event would be largely as is turned out to be, a sideways car show. We here at Drift Factory even debated about whether or not to even get a booth because of that. As a company we do not believe in import models or molested show cars. However, the reality is that this event was the first exposure many people had to drifting. I’m unhappy that it was this KIND if exposure but I’m glad that interest in the sport is growing. Now before anyone slams us with the “you’re just a new bandwagon company” crap let me say this. I have waited FOREVER for drifting to catch on here. I have been drifting for almost 9 years now and even though US drifting as a whole is not perfect, it’s a hell of a lot better than it was back when we were all underground. I remember the trouble I had finding parts for my car and getting my hands on an option or battle mag was a once a year thing at best. Now that drifting has caught on these things are readily available. The reality is that the people who dictate what drifting in the US will become are the consumers. Let’s face it EVERYTHING is business. However, that is a good thing because it means the consumer decides what direction drifting in the US will take by supporting the events and companies that stand for the same things they do. If you do not support the companies that do things you don’t like they will be forced to change or shut down. Business has always been and will always be a part of drifting, but it really is the drifters who decide how the sport will shape up in the States.

Ahh, the good ole American dollar. High and mighty in every way. I was actually trying to make it to this event (from Florida) but the flyer and the name has kept me from making such sacrifices. I find that every FD driver now has "Need for Speed Underground" tattooed on their car is a joke. The guy who brought up the flyer also made a GREAT point, and I noticed it as well.

How much drifting do you see on this flyer.......... LESS THAN 10 PERCENT OF THIS *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored*ING FLYER!
The rest is covered with amature porn stars posing as "umbrella girls" The MAIN STAGE has 3 female DJs with more plastic on their bodies than the cool RC drift expo they had. Not to mention a drinking lounge. TAADAA!! The biggest event of the night.... OVER 300 SHOWCARS.

The judges saying "who do you think won" sounds alot like reality TV. People doing their best only to have the "viewers" decide who gets kicked off the island, or who goes home. "One More Time" Has GOT to stop!!!

D1 does make money, and sponsors play a big role in their success. Throw in a option DVD and look at how many people you ACTUALLY see watching the drivers. D1 is not a circus in Japan. The drivers will drift and the competition will go on no mater how many people come to watch. However, FD needs the admission fee to compensate for all the other TOTAL *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored* *Censored**Censored**Censored* they flood the atmosphere with.

What Eiji did doesnt surprise me, its his normal self. Hes crazy, and hypes the croud very well. I dont put it past my mind that the crash was maybe staged. Americans go crazy when there is a 25 car crash in nascar. Why be any different here??? Whatever makes the crowd happy. Leiberman made that VERY clear in his post.

I REALLY hope that the drivers keep driving for themselves, and not because they are getting paid to perform well. Remember how you got where you are now.

Rhys, congrats man. You have turned a tank into a great car. Keep the domestic crew jumping.

In closing, id like to say this. Keep in mind that this is coming from a complete and total NOOBIE so it might not even phase some of the hardcore OGs.

I have never been so proud to call myself an amature no name drifter. I still drive for myself and do what I love, no matter what condition my car is in. I have NO ONE to answer to or praise when I perform well but myself and the other no name drifters whos pull my car off a wall or help me fix a warped fender. If I had the choice to drift in Formula D or a DGTrials event, its slide or die.

To FormulaD - This isnt a circus. People will still come to watch only cars sliding around. Drifting shouldnt be taken any less serious than other car sports. Bling bling cars are too scared to get on a track. "The worlds hottest DJ" has NOTHING to do with drifting. Let the judges decide who was the better drifter. If things keep going this way. I will NEVER attend a FD event.

And you know what, you're comparing a grassroots group (DGTA, same as Drift Association), to a series that is out to make money.

So....... where's the comparison? If you said "D1 vs. FD" then that's a valid comparison, but to compare Formula D to DGTA is like comparing major league baseball to the little league world series. One is professional competition, the other is a amateur/beginner learning event.

If I had a choice I'd run DA all year long.... and I do. But to me, Formula D is more of a challenge. I know I'm not making top 16... but if I can go out and run the same course as all the other top competitors, that would make my day perfect.

I had felt the same way about F-D before... but here's a great thread about D1GP that helps to point out some misconceptions about drifting in the U.S. right now:

                              Hmm...

What people seem to not realize is that this is a DRIFTING FAN WEBSITE. Not model fan, not dj fan, not car show fan, but DRIFTING FAN WEBSITE. If you can't take the criticism about us feeling that commercialization is fu**ing up the sport that we love, then go to importtuner.com or superstreet.com.

Mr Chang, you probably don't know who I am but know that I WAS on the inside of the scene. I know the rules, I know the clipping points, I know where judging stops and starts. I've been to 3 of the 4 formula D events and every d1 event, and numerous drift days. I've put blood, sweat, and tears into competition vehicles so I think I am somewhat qualified.

Am I a Uber drifter? NO. I have never claimed to be. Do I kiss other drifter's arses and become a yes man for them? NO. I actually disagree on a few things with multiple drivers while I agree with others. I just have been working in the US scene since its so called, "professional" inception in 2003.

Formula D just has to realize that now their show is for people ages 10-20 with out of control hormones, a heavy wallet, and no knowledge of drifting whatsoever. There are going to be MANY different series next year and if Formula D wants to stick around, they need to reevaluate certain things.

There were a few reasons why I and many others will boycott the Formula D series. We will not go to nor compete in your series.

Prior to this event, we decided we would not judge too harshly before we actually went to the event and saw for ourselves this event in Irwindale. I personally have been to Sonoma, Houston, and this Irwindale event. Progressively your event has gone from decent to a pile of dog sh*t.

To those who did not go, I think Jackass star Ryan Dunn summed it up the best over the loud speaker when he said, "I don't care about this stuff... I just want to take my rental car and take it out there... At least if I wreck my car, it would be pretty funny" That's about the intelligence that this event brought to Irwindale.

3/4 of the entire area was show cars, bling bling to the max complete with a stage for the booty contests and whatnot. What was extremely awesome was the giant TV for the crowd to stare at that constantly showed COMMERCIALS!

Now for what REALLY pissed me off and everyone around me. This was not a judged competition at all. Why did you even hire judges because they sure as f*ck don't do their job with you always saying "okay guys in the crowd, who do you think won? Should we go one more time?" Their judging was complete sh*t anyways. You did NOT judge on line, angle, speed, or ANYTHING that you should be judging on, you just judged on whoever the CROWD wanted. Oh yeah, and most of them were a bunch of kids who don't know SH*T about drifting.

Tarzan lays out a cloud of thick smoke after a super extended demo run that should have been over like 5 "one more time"s ago and one of the pro Japanese plows into him at like 50 mph head on and what does he care about more than checking on the driver? He f*cking climbs the fence to mess with the crowd! Priorities are SERIOUSLY f*cked here.

Between the $10 dollars for parking and the $25 for tickets and the advertising on big screens... you guys have made one hell of a money making machine that is RIPPING the sport apart. This isn't about the drivers, drifting, or driving skill.

To Sam, you got raped dude. Sam whooped Foresburg fair and square. Between Foresburg running off track and slamming into the barracades and Sam being on his *Censored**Censored**Censored* the whole second run... "one more time"? WTF?! All I heard from the punk kids behind me was, "F*CK the Viper!" and "F*CK Sam" and "JDM... JDM..." What a bunch of ignorant pieces of sh*t!

To Rhys, they tried to rape you dude. You won fair and square each and every time before the thousands of "one more time"s you had to endure. They were just waiting for you to f*ck up, but you didn't... awesome.

To Alex and Tyler, that was an AWESOME battle. In our groups opinion, if anything deserved a "one more time" it was definitely your run. Alex had 1 round and Tyler had 1 round. The comradery you guys showed after the run was awesome too. I saw you guys get out of your cars congratulate each other, that was great.

To Calvin, my god, you keep getting better and better. If your car didn't break, don't know how far you could have gone.

Well Formula D, we gave you the benefit of the doubt and you let us down. I guess money does rule all...
I wasn't actually at Formula D, but I will say this.... Were we right or were we right? Everyone knew this was the begining of the end.
