  • SEMA 06, advice needed

    Hi Guys
The Kiwi's are coming over to the US of A to see SEMA in a few weeks.
One of New Zealands founding drifters and one media guy are making the trip over with a small crew to cover SEMA for our local TV.

So, if anyone has any advice on who and what to see while in Vegas please let us know.

We are in town the day before SEMA starts and afterwards the TV crew leave us alone for a few days to hang out before we fly home.

Are there any tuning shops or other events on the weekend after SEMA that we can check out in either Vegas or LA?

Can anyone with experience from going to SEMA before fire through some advice on what not to do and what is a must see?

Otherwise let us know where you're staying and we can come and get on the gas with you guys.

    email is jt@jtdrift.com

    Cheers
    Jono and JT

    sending email right now

drifting demo is weds night. FD announcement is Weds Day. enkei wheels will have a bunch of cars, all the tire manufacturers will have cars in their booths, the rest we'll have to wait and see

weekend after SEMA a lot of tuning shops will be at the Time Attack at buttonwillow that Primedia is putting on (super street / import tuner / euro tuner / etc).

            Firstly....
Use the monorail when you can... If you are staying at a strip hotel.
Take a moment to eat somewhere GOOOOOOD.
See a good Cirque show... PM me for advice and opinions regarding that.
Industry parties are NOT what they are chocked up to be... but it depends on WHERE and WHO hosts it.

            Go to PURE

And on Thursday nights... Across from Palms, there's a group of locals who hang out at the sonic.

I think Hot import nights and Scion are throwing a party on Wednesday night at Body English (Hard Rock). And on Thursday, I believe Falkens throwing a party there too. If its anything like their booth during Formula D events, it should be good. tons of drifters and hot chicks.

                  falken's party is "vip" oriented.
the scion party is very hard to get into... that's why i didn't mention those.

the ones i mentioned are easier to get into, and directly related to the drifting industry.

Risque is such a lame venue for anything. But again, it's the hosts not the venue (sometimes)

Tao is a great place, get there early.

Body English is a good venue also.

But as with any party... get your invite, lanyard or whatnot... early. And arrive Early too.

REMEMBER one thing also... IF you get in to these parties do NOT forget to TIP. TIP WELL also. Not talking about lame a lame $2 tip... tip like it was yourself you're payin. That goes for any place in Vegas at any time.

Anyhow, there are too many areas to get lost in at SEMA. Grab a map and plan your attacks. You don't want to get lost in the offroad pavillions if you're not into them. Skip the outdoor areas until it's 4pm.

                    DO NOT EAT at SEMA.

                    Monorail it somewhere nice.
Monorail day passes are like $9.

If you want nightlife, you got it. Be ready to PAY to get in after waiting in a long *Censored**Censored**Censored* line. Unless you have local ID.

                    FOOD
Want a list of good eats? PM ME.

Stay away from "THE DRIVE" behind Sahara.... you'll waste $10 and 20 minutes.

                    Gamble?
sign up for a players card, do it. It may help with SEMA 07 planning.
Go to WYNN, MGM or REDROCK Some of the best tables and slots are within those casinos.

                    Attending on a low budget?
Hope you got your room already otherwise you're staying at State Line or 45 miles outside the strip!
Entertainment on a no budget.... Bellagio, fremont street, and the altenative lifestyle pirate experience outside of Ti.
Circus Circus is ghetto so if you're into it... ghettofy.
Buffet it... one meal all day.

                    Big spender?
Stay at Wynn at any cost.
Gamble at Wynn, Venetian, Ceasars, Mirage, MGM and Mandalay Bay.
Eat at Shibuya at MGM or Tao at Venetian... too many to continue listing. Remember, here are no BAD high end resturaunts in Vegas.

there is a PRE-SEMA USTCC Race worth checking out if you arrive early.
October 28-29 Las Vegas Motor Speedway

And if you're driving.... from L.A. DRIVE SAFE.
I have witnessed several several horrible accidents along the 15 in the past 3 years alone. Don't be one of them.
The 15 may have major construction. Lanes may be closed. Traffic will be heavy.
If you can leave vegas on Sat night do it. If you can't Wait until Monday morning. Monday mornings flow.
