Xtreme Drift Circuit, XDC Florida This Weekend

May 10, 2011 (Tustin, Calif.) – In the most anticipated event yet for the Xtreme Drift Circuit, the series is bringing a national level drifting competition back to the Sunshine State with this Sunday’s event at the Central Florida Racing Complex.

The XDC Orlando event, the third stop on the XDC National Tour, will also serve as the first event of the XDC Eastern Division championship – allowing drivers on the east coast to compete for their share of the over $90,000 that the XDC will award to its drivers in 2011.

The first two XDC events saw two different winners as Chelsea DeNofa, the 2010 season champion, captured the win at XDC Irwindale while George Marstanovic took the victory at XDC Phoenix. While Marstanovic is focusing on the XDC Western Division championship, DeNofa is taking part in the entire XDC National Tour and will be competing at XDC Orlando in his unique four-door BMW M3. Also competing with him on the XDC National Tour is Dave Briggs from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Briggs and DeNofa currently lead the XDC National Tour points standings.

Focusing on the Eastern Division this year is Doug Van Den Brink, winner of two XDC events in 2010 (XDC Hyperfest and XDC Texas). Van Den Brink, in his Ford Mustang, is no doubt a serious contender for victory in Florida, as is the winner of the XDC Englishtown event in 2010, Matt Waldin, in his Nissan 350Z. Other notables on the entry list include winner of the 2010 XDC Phoenix event, Miro Ovcharik, Texas’ Nate Hamilton, and New Jersey based driver Steve Angerman. Fresh off of competing at the Formula Drift event at Road Atlanta, Dennis Mertzanis, from Atlanta, Georgia, Kenneth Moen from Oslo, Norway, and Jeff Jones from Sunland, CA could act as spoilers for the XDC Eastern Division drivers.

Eight drivers entered in the event call the state of Florida home, including Formula Drift Pro-Am competitor Jason Jiovani.

NOS Energy Drinks is also joining the XDC this weekend as the presenting sponsor of the event, while Scion will take part as the presenting sponsor of the REMIX Car Show. REMIX hosted a wildly successful car show in Miami in 2010, and early indications are that the REMIX show at the Central Florida Racing Complex will feature several hundred of the best show cars in Florida. And as always, the event will also feature the popular XDC Model Competition at the Cooper Tires Stage.

Gates for XDC Orlando open to the public at 11:00 AM ET, with qualifying beginning at 11:20 AM ET. The top-16 tandem competition will begin at 4:00 PM ET.
