Man you guys are funny. A FF can drift. A big wheel can drift. Snow can drift. Drifting is sliding only controlled. This has been gone over numerous times. Whoever said that it isn't a drift unless you smoke the tires? Are you serious? A drift is a sideways slide, nothing more nothing less.
Whether it's with the e-brake, the fuel pump or your grannies underwear, it's a slide.

So yes FF can drift.
YOu're the funny one.
Drifting, the Japanese bred exhibition sport, is more than just a one slide. Americans like this guy ghost have a big misconception over what drifting is and Drifting, The sport, is. Sure a driver can get sideways and Drift in a civic, but one can not compete in the sport of drifting with any drivetrain other than FR. FF cars are simply not built for Drifting, the sport.
Whether taking a few runs down a mountian pass, or competing at local Drift event, it is up to the driver to show a mastery by getting sideways though many turns. Look at just some the tracks that have featured a drift event within the last 3 years. Thunder hill and button willow have very high speed curves. A judge, jounalist or a critical armchair driver will look at whether a participating driver successfully maintains drifts through all of the corners including those at higher speeds.
I have yet to see any FF cars pulls this off.
Most drivers, even koguchi, have said that drifting begins with a mastery the doughnut. The novice begins by mastering larger and larger radius Doughnuts. FF cars will never be able to pull these manuvers!
while FF cars can get sideways, usually extemely brief moments, FR cars will continue to dominate the sport until 50/50 MR cars become dirt cheap.
It's been covered, that's why there weren't any posts past me and GOD.
The topic is done, you are correct with all your talk of "the japanese exhibition sport...a driver successfully maintains a drift through all of the corners..yadda...yadda...yadda..."
WE KNOW.
The question was: Can an FF drift?
The answer YES.
The question you answered: Can I use my Civic and get in to D1?
The answer of course not.
Not trying to bite your head off or anything, I'm glad you have a good understanding of the sport. But, your answer just brings about a bunch nonsense that we've already been through, multiple times. I hope you understand, I haven't seen you on the boards before, welcome.
I disagree. I have seen Kyle (board member here) connect multiple turns. He can also choku dori down a straightaway. This is in his box Civic with a B16 and M5. And this is not all handbrake action either, a mix of feint and a few other techniques. Just because you haven't seen it yourself does not mean its impossible. On the mountain he does even better (downhill helping him hold his speed). He can and does connect multiple switchbacks while choku'ing the straight. Continue to doubt, but he will have video out soon that will show you just what I am talking about. Also keep in mind that he won an award at Drift Showoff 2003 in Hawaii (best of show in the drift comp) after impressing the panel of Japan judges with some very nice FF drifting. Though he did not place in the top 3, he was still recognized.
If the makers of the D1 Gran Prix(Option Magazine), say a honda can drift, then they CAN drift! they have a whole corner for FF drifting every month on drift tengoku!
And for those who don't know E- brake drifting is the original AND basic technique for drifting and it works on FF FR MR and AWD
I just don't understand...before drifting came to the states, maybe 3/4 of you here maybe claimed that there was nothing better than a good civic w/ NX, NOW it seems like you hate all hondas how can you all diss honda like that?
Me, I ALWAYS had known about drifting!
No matter what people say its possible. Its called the left foot brake technique. A FF can enter a corner in oversteer and flow past the apex. Its just not quite as fast or easy to do as a FR.
I have a misconception? That's a laugh. Sounds like you are the one who is completly off base and have absolutly no idea what you are talking about. How bout this. I'll handle the driving if you handle the shutting the f--k up. Hate to be rude like that but jesus man. This has been covered 1,2,3 and up to 500 times.
It doesn't matter that a FWD can't get into D1. That wasn't the question.
Read the WHOLE thread before you post back with some nonsense.
YES YES YES YES YES A FWD CAN DRIFT!!!!
Listen to the crazy one from Hawaii. He knows. Sounds like that FWD might just out drift you Mr D1. Now wouldn't that sting just a little.
And MR cars will dominate the sport after they become cheap???? I don't know what part of under the rockville you live in but MR cars are cheap already. So I guess Koguchi isn't using a MR car cause it's too expensive. Gee I should get me a copy of his car since they are so cheap.

It is possible to oversteer in a FF without pulling the E, but going around a turn sideways while counter steering and applying power has yet to be done in a FF...
-MR
I beg to differ I have done it with ff I can dori an 1/8 mile straight with out hitting the hand brake once and stay side bye side with an fr but it takes years of practice to do it at least for me
I always here people say "I can drift with my FF car." Now my question is, is it really possible? My understanding is the law of physics won't allow a FF car drift. The only time a FF car drifts is by pulling the e-brake only. I notice that there are different school of thoughts out there, some people will argue that using e-brake is not true drifting or is not a technique an advance drifter will use under normal circumstance(except understeering). Please correct me if I'm Wrong.
No its not possible,
Maybe in your dreams with all the other delusional fantansies you might have.
you can call *Censored**Censored**Censored* draggin a good drift, but if you really have about 8 YEARS like that one guy "drifting" his civic, then yes it COULD be POSSIBLE. It will jut look nasty for the rest of mankind thats all.
Go drive a rwd and fwd back to back and try to chokudori, power over and inetial drift them both. You'll have the answer to the question after you try that on both platforms given they are of equal weight, hp, weight dist./balance.. Not to step on Kyle's feet but rwd is where its at.
Alota people call anything drifting and it depends what exactly you consider drifting. Some won't consider an ff drift a true drift some will. I can drift an FF in Need For Speed Underground.. but thats just a ricer game.

Heh.
you know of a 50/50 weight distrubuted MR car that's under 50k? I have an MR2 and it's very tricky to drift. its 46/54 weight distribution throws it into a spin very easily. There is a razor thin margin of error when drifting these oversteering beast.
i can't think of any MR cars that aren't back heavy.
I personally don't care. I don't drift FF, AWD or MR. do RWD. But to say that FWD cannot Drift is just plain stupid. Anything can Drift and that's the simple fact.
