well i just did a gymkhana and realized how much my car understeers. i have to clutch kick it hard to get it to start sliding. any tips on stopping this?

Wow that last post was worthless, I have no idea what the suspension of the 510 even looks like so I can't offer any more useful info then that last guy, I wonder if he even knows what gymkhana is....
"just blast past some of those cones in the middle, skip the one people are 540ing around, and carry more speed into the last set, the weight transfer should take care of you.... better yet do a RB26DETT VTEC swap that'll fix it!!"

Spazm, not trying to start anything, but how exactly was your post any more helpful. You offered no advice and did it with 40 times as many words. Driving faster should help. The car will have greater momentum, allowing the rears to break free a little easier. A good ol fashion yank of the E-brake, while not the cleanest or most respected method, should also do the trick.
Also, I'm guessing the suspension looks like this - Spring coiled around a shock. Just a guess.Last edited by UberSpeed; 06-27-2005, 07:53 AM.

1'' thick carbon fiber rear sway bar. Has to be carbon fiber no other material is jdm enough.
500lbs/inch springs in the rear.
inflate rear tires to like 60 psi.
Do that and then post on how to keep it from spinning out.( if you look through my bs those are some legitimate reasons.)

welding your diff make make your car understeer more, unless you snap the car sideways and make the rear slide... if he cant get the car to slide now theres another problem. i have a 510, its a turbo rotary, the blue one that was in sport compacts ultimate street car challenge. i had a welded diff and it sucked. i had no e-brake and i couldent clutch kick it cause i broke half shafts doin that, so the car pushed bad. i had to enter the turn way to hot, turn in a little to get some weight on the front wheel, lift the throttle, left foot brake, turn in more then it would start to slide, and then get back on the gas to steer the car arround the turn ( i wasent drifting this was on a road course). what is your suspension set up? what shocks, springs, sway bars, bushings, camber plates and so on do you have? how low is the front, is the shock bottoming out? that causes understeer and is pretty common on the 510

If max is 44 do 44 in front and 48 out back. Dive in deeper and use carefull brakes to pivot. Whe I started out I set up a cone in a parking lot and with out ebrake or clutch I could dive into and pivot directly around the cone using just brakes. So start out by driving faster :P

my 510 is running celica kyb cartrages in front and mr2 cartrages in rear with nissan competition springs. the springs are hard in front and mild in the back. i have no ebrake. i have no problems geting sideways with my lsd. its either understeer to snap oversteer. ive yet to find the happy medium

no, the front should be stiffer than the rear in a front engine car.. rear engine car like a porsche would be stiffer in the rear. do you have a front sway bar? rear sway bar? if you have one in the front disconnect it. that will make more weight transfer to the front of the car and make the rear lighter.
check your front shocks also by jacking up the front of the car, then put a zip tie arround the chrome shock shaft right at the bottom where it goes into the tube(make shure its tight so it wont slide by itself), then put the car down, drive it hard like you were before(dont do it on the street) and then jack up the front again and see where the zip tie is. if its close to the top or at the top your shocks are most likely bottoming out, then what you need to do is pull the spring off, and push the shock all the way into the tube and see where it bottoms out, some shocks bottom out before the chrome shaft goes all the way into the tube. on the rear suspension, have you modified it to adj toe? if you havent you probobly have a bunch of toe in and that will make it snap oversteer. what motor do you have in the car? stock L series or is it a KA or SR? a heave front end will cause a push also...

Depends on what car, on some of the older cars the rear squats so bad that you need higher spring rates in the rear. Yes, even when the engine is in the front.
