  • need all the info i can get for ca18det (already searched)

yea title speaks for itself...i mean all of it, engine spec.s size, bore, blahblahblah ect...I'm getting one for the 240sx shell i just got, i kno small minor things like iron block, beefy rods, lower compression pistons, turbo, intercooler, but i can't find anything else...including the redline...

Then you need to try harder... did you just "already search" here? Go to freshalloy for starters, or hit google and type for example "ca18det bore stroke" that alone gave me over 100 hits.

Why don't you just get the engine and a ruler and measure it yourself?! Just kidding. Google.com has squat as far as the CA18DET goes. Ultimately, you may have to go and buy some Hyper Revs about the Silvia or talk to some specialist about it.

If by "squat", you mean "a sthitton of info", you are correct. Just on the first page of hits between 2 google searches I found the bore, stroke, compression ratio, injector size, and a whole diatribe on the basic design and construction of the CA as compared to the SR, as well as info on swapping different cams and stuff between the CA variants.

Someone did a very good write-up about the CA18DET just recently. I'll try to find it for you and post it here.

btw, CA is related to RB in sooooo many ways. =)

Yep, its an RB with the front two cylinders cut off. Hey foilman, way to post that "a sthitton of info" you said you found. And what is your infatuation with freshalloy? Im over there with the same sn but I wasnt really impressed. Some ppl seem to know there stuff, but most are asking why there car is hiccuping. Oh, first mod to the CA, toda head. MMmmm...

Higher revs are good for road racing since you can hold a gear longer. But in drifting you just need more useable torque and horsepower, so higher revs don't really do a whole lot as far as that goes.

I said I found a lot of info becuase I did, despite the fact somebody else said google was pretty much worthless. Are you implying that I lied? It's actualy very easy... try the first search for yourself, or try the words "specs OR specifications". Like so easy, that if somebody actualy searched for the info, they could have found it in 5 minutes.

And I'm not infatuated with FA, but it's been around longer than the other 240 forums and generally has or had, the most knowledgeable and experienced people on it. Just about every topic has been covered there and you can use the search function to find the answer to most 240 tech questions, particularly in the advanced forum. It's one of the best resources, especialy if you want to do reasearch, rather than just ask questions, and I highly recommed it.

Want me to point to other places?... try nico, zilvia, 240sxforums etc. I dont' think they are as good, and some of them don't allow guests to view messages. I've been very involved with the 240 community before any of those existed, back on the original "main list", which is still running, and might also be worth a look if a traditional list is more your thing. Ive been to all those boards, and am just trying to be helpfull. I could just post some numbers or links I dug up but figured giving the criteria for my first search, and encouraging the person to look in better places would be most helpfull. This isn't exactly the place to ask for expert CA info (should have at least put it in the technical forum) and even better is to go where most the info is.

                    That good enough for you?

Edit: P.S. I see you've been a member at FA for all of a week, 5 posts, and mostly in the basic forum. Hardly enough time to get a good feel for FA.

designe wise it has the sr running for cover, it revs high thanks to the superior head design, they can take a beating and beg for more, just remember the sr was a low price replacement for the ca18det, not to mention it shares many design features with the god;s of nissan motor's the rb series

Know any other place that sell some CA18DET parts beside Jun and Tomei.Parts are pretty hard to find for that engine as compared to the SR,especially over here.

                          look beyond japan.

in malaysia, we have some garages customizing items like cams and turbos for CA18DET.

Also, some companies in australia carries aftermarket parts for CA.

A friend of mine is doing this swap into his 89' 240. Word of advice... but a front clip! Do not try to piece the swap together, you will end up paying more than you would have for the clip because you have to track down all the seperate pieces. The CA18DET is a good engine, but since it is older than 10 years you will want to buy a MASTER GASKET SET for it and re-build it before putting it in. This will save you time and heartache in the long-run. There is an Australian company that sells the master gasket set for this engine, but you are going to have to search on that. If you are looking for reliability though, red top sr20 is the way to go. It can be found in much better shape than the ca18 and is more reliable than blacktop sr20's because of the lack of ball-bearing turbos (blacktops known to wear out the stock ball-bearing turbos). Also, I don't know if anyone here ever saw the car, but the Tommy Kaira S13 that was on Ebay and everything was originally imported by AutoConXion in Signal Hill, CA... it came equipped with the CA18DET and let me tell you that the CA18 is a sweet sweet motor! Only thing is that the engine was getting old (a little bit of oil coming out the turbo), but sounded great. Do your homework man, you can find a lot of information on this motor if you just search.
