What did you all think of the drifting course used in formula d, here at road atlanta. I wanted to ask one of the drivers after the competition but none of the americans came up to the fense. I dont think uuchi understood me when i asked him but he did smile and shake my hand. but for real i thought the course was kicka$$, but i know i heard some people saying they wish it had more space. what do you all think?

The course was great and I applaud Road Atlanta for paving a new section just to facilitate drifting! Overall it was a medium to slow course. It has good flow and enough width for a choice in line. The first turn is cool because there is enough room to come in FAST, WAY hotter than what you can sustain through it. I was actually hoping they'd start us further back like the previous test day so I could enter it about 90 and start my slide at the first or second white line. Myself and a few other underpowered cars didn't have room to get up to speed for the ultimate entry, and I had to bang through the gears as fast as possible while others actually checked their speed.
It's also a bit technical because of the width, and twists, and the double apex left hander coming down from the top of the horseshoe. It takes careful attention to line and speed to nail that as one drift, especially if you don't have a ton of hp. That's a good thing... separates the good from the great and forces you to learn to do better consistently.
The only bad thing is the harsh sawtooth style curbing. It's pretty rough on cars normally, and is violently destructive when coming back the reverse direction if you're more ~3" in it. Maybe there will be pics of JR's front wheels (4th place Falken car) which had big "teeth marks" after getting squeezed off course on a tandem run.
BTW, there was talk about RA having open drift sessions. They are currently trying to figure out all the details, insurance, etc, so no more details for now, but keep your ears and eyes open.
