  • Impreza Type-R or a S14a 200sx

Right this is my first post on this website. Been reading for a long time but always too shy to post.
Im in the North of England (live near loads of farm roads, country lanes) and Im trying to keep drifting alive up here

    Currently Im driving this

The car lacks power (200BHP) and I think Im at the stage to modify but the options seem expensive. It would be cheaper to sell and buy another car.

Ive looked at some Impreza Type-R's (2 door coupe) and these have 300+BHP. One local to me is a WRX Sti 4 with mild mods (de-cat, zorst, filter, iridium plugs, slight boost upgrade and a few other things) The owner claims 326BHP. Im very interested in this car but unsure. I dont want to buy and miss my beloved S14a
These cars also have an electronic diff. So you can send power between 4wd and RWD.

The problem is Ive never seen one being drifted. Logically they make good drift cars (light, RWD, powerful). Why do we never see any Impreza Type-R's in drift video's ??

What do you guys think. Shall I take the plunge with a Impreza Sti4 Type R ?

AWD cars are hard to drift obviously, but the WRX Type-RA Sti only is considered to even be an exotic car, possibly one the greatest Impreza ever built. If the price is right, you might want to look into it,but not as a drift car.

      Hi,
      its not a Type-RA its a Type-R (2 door version)

Neither the Type-RA or the Type-R are expensive in the UK. You can pick up a Type-RA for around 7.5k (around 13k us dollars) and a Type-R can be had for 9k-12.5k (between 16k and 22k US dollars)

The Type-R has a DCCD (electronic diff controller) so it acts as a AWD and a RWD (if you move all the power to the back)

Just wonderd if anybody had any experince with the type-r and drifting
here is a pic of one

My mistake, though the Type-R is still held as one of the greater Imprezas ever built.Since they were never sold on this side of the world.I can't tell you much about them.

\\edited out history of the type-RA cuz no one cares and i am an idiot and did not read the previous post\\

now back to the subject at hand... making a WRX RWD... i am pretty sure that even with the electronic center diff you can't just pull a fuse or turn a knob to make it RWD i think you actually have to make it a perm mod by taking out the front drive shafts...

now once you have done that the imprezza is supposed to be quite the drifter... weight distro should be quite nice

as a side note the 2 most exotic WRX versions are the 22b and the P1 both are basically WRC rally cars that the public can purchase even more rare than the 22b are the 100 or so "22b prodrive edition" that thing is a monster.

i have an old options video with orido drifting, he actually does drift one of those imprezas with the adjustable center diff, and does really well. He just turned the adjustment knob all the way rwd, and he drifted like normal. very cool, i dont think we got those in the US.

Well budy, if it's cheaper for you to sell that S-14 and get that Subby then go for it. I like the scoobs and I would do the same thing. Specially of you can taint the 4wd system into RWD. Heck yea.

I think I will get the Type-R. Thanks for the input.

Ahhh the benefits of being right hand drive, we get all these funcky japanese cars, and there not too expensive.
Its a shame our petrol is sooo rubbish. 98 is the highest octane rating we get and we have to use octane booster.

Watch this space for videos of a Type-R..
Ill also post some vids of my s14a later.

hey buddy, 98 octane? The best we get at the pumps over in seattle is 92, occasionally 93 if youre lucky.

Even our regular petrol is 95 octane. I now see why the American S14 only came with a de-tuned SR20DE and not the SR20DET (with a turbo) 92 octane is really poor fuel.
But we pay about 10 times more for our fuel

I might be wrong, but I believe we use different octane ratings. By the way, that Subaru is *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored*ing hot unlike our current STI model we get in the states.

nope, all our s-chassis nissans came w/ a KA24E, or KA24DE which happen to be the same engines in our nissan trucks, not the SR20.

Well, Mr UK, you may be in luck. I know two ppl that it would be ideal for you to contact, both at DC . One is a scooby drifter who has done the RWD conversion and one is a friend from the UK.

HS14 is a member at DC that lives in the UK. BTW what do you mean, "keep drifting alive here", yall get D1 over there.

                          Anyway, here are two threads
