ok sticky this, i am greatly interested in drifting and love doing it, no I am no expert nor will i try to be I am a newbee to it but have the interst to learn a participate in newly organized events!
But I am an avid participant in many many almost to manny message boards, and BS arguments and whos right shat bugs me. I know drag racing and will challenge anyones opinion on bracket racing skills and knowledge. As for drifting I wont I am just learning but if this site keeps this shat up I will just leave off and be myself at local events, but I'd rather not an be an active user here!

So Lets start the debate WHAT IS DRIFTING: a style, a faster e.t. a lifestyle? or something else, what is classified as drifting!

Now heres the thread say what ya feel or what is right its a debate now we can state what we feel or Know! be it correct or an opinion let the reader decide what is right and the participants exchange views an understandings.

Sticky this cause i want to see what others say as do many, I am not a great drift god nor do I claim to be but I love the idea and want people to discuss it an lets put a thread up to do so instead of trashing other people threads who have questions!

yeah, i think its a topic thats been a little bit over-chewed. i think that drifting is what you make it, and if its your lifestyle, like it is mine, then so be it.

OK SO WHAT so i am new here I dont see a FAQ section nor do I see it stickyed hence this post! I am not here to start shat but some people here seem to be very opinionated, ok I am the same way on other sites let us have a thread to let it go! a running thread!

My opinion on what Drifting is:
A driving "style" started by touge racers in japan's mountian roads. Where touge racing began, speed was the key slowly the high speed slides drew more attention than speed and became more of a show of skill and became more respected than just going fast, if ya can slide it and to most looks like out of control and keep going you were the best. To sum up quick it became D1 now hitting the states and our selfproclaimed experts!
now as I said this needs to be a running thread!

dis me if ya want, wont bother me any cause i will still be at local events and participating with local clubs into drifting I am not a internet racer. Most people who know me an my cars dont even know I have a web site they just know me from the track and events I attend.

i am kinda known as a "hardass" around my school for my drifting and driving in general, but i dont try to impress people, too much at least. i do it cause it is tons of fun, and i dont really have comps to attend, so i just do it on my own.

To the folks that think it's a "trend" "fad" "Culture", stop it right now... That's stupid. It's the overly typical American approach to something that looks cool.

My definition of drifting as it pertains to:

            Racing-
Using the maximum possible traction of the tires to the point where you have exceeded it's grip capability. In doing so, still maintaining the mometum of the vehicle in the corner, and using racing skills, using the throttle to help redirect the car in the direction the driver wants it to go.

For the layman, if you watch a hard charging driver that looks like he's gripping, if you pay good attention, you can see that he/she is using a very low slip angle slide through the corner. Yeah, very low angle drift. It's done so often most folks don't see it.

            Show Drift-
A good way to have fun and to show off good car control skills

            Competition drift-
Competition of car control skills while demonstrating good grip techniques (proper race line, etc).

            People-
It's just a hobby. The fashion is just happens to be what most of the drifters wear. They don't wear a certain item to be a "drifter". It's like stakeboarders. Look at how the "fashion" started... The originators simply wore something they liked, and wasn't in it for the "fashion".

            Business-
Many of the parts manufactures are simply using their road racing parts. See the tie-in to grip? It's the same thing. There are some specialized shock valving here and there, but again, it still traces back to road race setups.

            Racing organization-
D1 is a giant commercial entity. Good money making machine. There are tons more drivers out there that can drive better that aren't in D1. D1 is simply a show case for manufacturers adn some drivers. Some of the grass roots events in Japan, you will see guys that can out driver most D1 drivers.

Me i just do it for the fun of it. I like going fast and i like pushing my self and my car to the limit. Plus my area helps. In abq, nm you have nothing but windy roads, mountians, canyons, dirt roads, and half amile long roads in the middle of nowhere. Its like the state was made for drifting, and the ocational drag race. Just wish the police saw it may way.

I think when people say its a culture to them, they dont mean they're doing it just to be cool. I can honestly say that drifting is a part of my life and has become a culture to me. I think about it EVERYDAY. Behind the wheel or not, somewhere i'm thinking about it. And no I'm not one of the millions of 16 year olds that are just finding out about this way of life. I've been into this for about 5 years and have had lots of time to let it "pass through". Its apart of me, and I know theres a lot of others that can relate.
F uck all of the people that are pulling thier mamma's accord hand brakes while they're wearing the newest DRFT T-shirt they just found. thats the shiet that needs to quit.
There really is a love, passion and lifestyle out there for drifting, its just that ALLREADY, people are starting to give it a bad name.
