D1 Grand Prix to make Las Vegas debut at The Strip at LVMS;
Drifting series joins NHRA Sport Compact Nationals July 14-15
LAS VEGAS -- The D1 Grand Prix Professional Drift Series will be the featured showcase of the world's largest sport compact tuner event, to be held July 14-15 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The NHRA Las Vegas Sport Compact Nationals will feature Japan's premiere drift series – the D1 Grand Prix – paired with the NHRA SONY Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series and Extreme Autofest lifestyle event. The event also will feature live bands and a bikini contest.
"Three of the biggest sport compact events in the world will be showcased in one venue, on the same days, for one ticket price," said Chris Blair, LVMS’ senior director of drag racing operations. "This will be an incredible event showcasing the fastest cars, the wildest drift cars and the most beautiful show cars."
The D1 Grand Prix drifting series has hosted four sold-out events in the U.S. The top 12 drivers from Japan will face off against a team of U.S. drivers in one of the most highly-anticipated events in the international series. The drifting course will be constructed inside The Strip's midway area behind the main grandstands.
"We're very excited to host the D1 series as they are without a doubt the most professional and highly-competitive group of drift racers in the world," continued Blair. "This event will be the 'must see' event for any sport compact enthusiast and bringing these three groups together will revolutionize the industry."
