Each 2007 Drift411 competition will award drivers' points based on their performance. At the end of the Drift411 season, the top drivers in the series will be invited to compete at the Pro-Am Drifting Championship in November. For more information on the Pro-Am Series, please visit the Pro-Am website. For more information on the Formula Drift Professional Series, please visit the Formula Drift website.

The Drift Competition will be run north from Midway into the "M's". Participants will be judged on three corners/clipping points. (Refer to track image above for more details)

    Judging for Drift Comp

    Line 0 - 30 pts
The driver must stay on the correct path on the course. Straying too far from the race line will result in points being deducted from this sector. How far the drivers are off from the inner and outer clipping zones. Anything more that an foot away from the zones points will be deducted. Hitting the clipping zones too early or too late will loose points also.

    Speed 0 - 30 pts
How hard and fast the drivers attack the course will affect their points in this category. Drivers must optimize and maintain their speed as they enter and exit corners as they make their way through the course.

    Angle 0 – 30 pts
Drivers should be holding the optimal angle at which a driver can maintain and control the vehicle throughout the course of the run. The angle of the vehicle will be judged as they enter and exit the corners. If a vehicle loses its drift during the run points will be deducted. If the lost of drift is major, it will count as a spin and the driver will receive 0 points for the run.

    Impact 0 – 10+ pts
Impact is the category in which drivers may gain points. This would depend on how much they impress the judges and audience with the display of their skill and car control. For example, if a driver performs a 90 point run and the entry was very impressive, extra points will be added to the total score depending on the judge.

A passenger is defined, as any participant possessing the proper wristband or credential, riding in a moving vehicle while on track, yet is not in physical control of that vehicle. USD and NASA Instructors are not considered passengers for the purpose of this section. All passengers must be at least 18 years old. Minors that are participants in the event should not be a passenger, unless riding with an instructor, for the purposes of instruction.
The ability to take a passenger on-track is a revocable privilege, not a right, and may not be allowed at certain events.

    * Passengers must use the same safety equipment and attire as required of the driver.
    * Passengers should not be allowed in vehicles where they are sitting near or below obstructions (i.e. “Petty bar”) that may pin, trap them, or cause other possible harm.
    * Passengers are not allowed to possess a camera at any given time, in any car, unless an Instructor is driving.
    * Passengers should not commit any action as to cause interference or distraction of the driver or any other drivers.
    * Passengers should keep their arms and hands inside the vehicle at all times.
    * Passengers are not permitted to place any part of their bodies, such as their hands, in any area that is between any roll bar/cage tubing and the body panels of the interior. Doing so may result in crushed limbs. Enforcement of this rule is the responsibility of the driver.
    * Passengers are not allowed in open-top cars that do not provide adequate roll bar protection for the passenger side of the car (i.e. an original Shelby Cobra).

Also.... Memphis Motorsports Park has asked us to gather a team of 4 drivers to do a drift demo. The demo will occur the night before (May 4th) around 11pm. The audience will consist of 1K - 2K people who are there for a drag racing competition. The track will be pausing the drag comp in order to give the demo drift team "the floor"

In light of that, we will be choosing 4 drivers from the Competition Drivers list to do the demo. Those who are choosen for the demo will be allowed to leave their rigs/trailer/vehicles at the track following the demo, if they so choose.
More info on this at a later time.

For those of you who are confused about the D4 Amateur Circuit's involvement in the ProAm Series:

In an effort to further promote the rapidly growing sport of drifting, the United States Drift Association (USDA) was created to provide an effective and highly recognizable Pro-Am drifting series to the United States. The USDA consists of some of the top grassroots drifting organizations throughout North America, thus allowing it the ability to concentrate in these key markets regionally, while still maintaining a nationwide presence needed to operate as a true national amateur series.

The main goal of the USDA and our Pro-Am Drifting Championship is to provide drivers with a series to compete in without experiencing major financial burdens, thus allowing drivers the ability to be nationally ranked. At the same time, it also provides drivers with the option to maintain involvement in the grassroots atmosphere they first encoun tered and/or prepare them for a professional approach to the sport.

The Pro-Am Series Championship Event is the biggest amateur drifting competition to take place in North America. This years 2007 event, held in Laughlin, NV in conjunction with the American Rally Sport Group (rallyusa.com), will attract upwards of 8,000 people in attendance over the course of the three day weekend.

Covering the Southeast area of the country is Drift411, a company known for extraordinary events and news/media coverage of the drift community. Drift411's "D4 Amateur Series" will be series of events throughout the Southeast that will be working off a points system much similar to that of US Drift. A certain amount of points are assigned to a finishing rank, (i.e.: First 100 points, Second 90 points, Third 81 points, etc..). At the end of the series, the top eight competitors from all series events for the region, including the D4 Amatuer Circuit, will be invited to the Pro-Am Nationals in Laughlin, Nevada, to compete against the top finishers from each region in the country. Further more, you will also be able to compete against the 2007 Formula Drift zero point holders for a License to run in the 2008 Formula Drift Series. If you don't make the cut for a Formula D License in the Pro-Am Competition you still have a chance to get a Formula Drift Provisional. And at the very minimum, enable you to be ranked on a national level.

Round 1 of the D4 Amateur Circuit took place in Memphis, Tennessee on May the 5th, and What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than shredding some tires! The day started out cloudy with some drizzle. But Mother Nature eventually moved on and made way for a great competition. A practice session started the day and consisted of a parking lot practice area which integrated into a portion of the road course known as the "M's". Due to Memphis Motosports Park's great setup, Drift411 was able to give the drivers options during the practice session. They could utilize both the parking lot area, located to the right of the start box, and the "M's". Or, if they preferred to save tires, time, and/or energy could make a left, bypass the parking lot area and practice just the road course. This turned out to be a great setup and enabled the entire grid to hotlap constantly and rarely having to stop/wait at the start box.

However, the earlier part of the day held many problems for a couple of drivers. Jodin LeJune in the Supunion S13 coupe had motor issues which began at a demo the previous night and continued on into the day of the event. The problem progressed and ended even worse for the team when the motor blew in practice. Nick Thomas in his Green S13.5 had problems with his steering rack but by the end of the day was able to get his car up and running.

The completion brought 6 drivers who possessed the proper safety equipment and several hard decisions for judges Chris Rhoad, Chad Copeland and Forest Lester. Top of 3rd gear and even 4th gear entries were common throughout the competition, but were ultimatly too harsh for some when entering the decreasing radiuses of the "M's".

Third place went to Darren Streibig in his 1996 Toyota Supra sponsored by Adrenalin Motorsports. Second Place went to Jerry Farabee sponsored by Xtreme Auto Accessories and First went to Nick Thomas after having problems earlier in the day to take the win.

Special thanks goes out to Memphis Motorsports Park, Kumho Tires, Studio Rhoad, Cool Cat Racing, FERDwear, ProjectGirlDrifter, and Traction Optional for helping make this event possible. But, more so, the drivers. Each of them came out, grabbed MMP by the horns, and made their presence known.
