hey chris ive got some questions about the sr powered 350z
1)how complicated was the swap ???
2)what is the suspension setup like, what parts are you using ??
3)if you had to do one thing different with the car what would it be and why ??
4)how much weight did you save by using the sr over the vq ??
5)if someone wanted to do the same (put an sr into the 350z) what advice would you give them ??
6)if someone wanted to setup a 350z for drifting what type of setup would you advise for them to use???

The swap wasnt as complicated as others i have done. Alot of the stuff lined up really well. Just had to make motor mounts, tranny mount, shifter and driveshaft. and then you have an operational sr in the car.
The suspension setup is all Tanabe. The coilovers are Tanabe DD. It works awesome.
Theres nothing really i would do differently. There are more things on the car i want to work on as usual. But maybe not do such a custom cooling system, for in case something happens, you can swap a stock radiator.
The sr setup was about 300lbs less than the vq motor and tranny.
Just to make it so the car can come apart easily for maintence. Also you need a shorter final drive. stock z is 3.5, i run a skyline diff housing with a 4.0. Which is still too tall.
Just make sure you get some good coilovers. That is all you need to have a solid drifting 350z. If you want more than that, its a big step. You need to get new rims and tires, all the rear arms, radiator, bucket seat, turbo setup, and then lighten it up as much as you can and put a cage in it.

Buttonwillow was cool. Everyone got good practice in. We found a couple weak spots on the cars and will have them all ready for D1. The course is fun and let us practice some new techniques. I was entering turn 1 after the straightaway at 120mph! Top of 4th gear!

I'd say stick with the VQ motor. It is a good motor it just needs to be built properly. There are people pushing over 400whp now safely with stock internals. I only did the swap because it was so early on that there wasnt even a turbo kit available yet, and not enough aftermarket parts available yet. We had the SR laying around and it was a fun and easy swap to do. The RB is a great motor and will provide lots of power. But it is very long and will put even more front end weight on the car. The VQ gives a lot more torque than an SR setup for sure.

I think its awesome. I got to drive my S15 for the first time last weekend at D1!!! Yeah yeah it was the R/C version, not the real one. But it was just as much fun!!! I want to get my own!
