  • jgtc vs trans am

i was just wandering wich one of these is a more professional series (don't know how to explain what im trying to sy in one word, but you get what i mean). There both professonal series, both were created for basicly the same reason, for road racing that countrys popular cars, the cars are very advanced and mostly resemble the car.
the differances are that jgtc is very popular right, and trans am well isn't, the jgtc cars very different but well mattched where as the trans am cars are very similer.
so tell me what to think!

(i know it's not drifting, but many of the cars street counter parts are)

i dont really get what your trying to say. but i think that trans am isnt all that popular because of the fact that they are domestics and we all know that nobody likes domestics, at least on this board.

p.s. i dont mind domestics at all

            All right.

Here's the first clue in. JGTC is not very popular as a road racing series as a whole. It's radically popular in Japan and with diehards of the import world, but is unknown or vaguely known by average motorsports fans and looked down upon by road racing purists as being highly xenophobic and for disobeying basic GT series ideals.

The Trans-Am (short for Trans-America Championship) was at one point what Speed World Challenge is today. It began as a very simple class for two door coupes with four seats with engines that had a single four-barrel carburetor and no more than 5.0L of displacement. Suspension had to be of the stock layout and type, as did brakes, manifolds, and so on. There was also a 2.0L class (this is where the infamous BRE Datsun 510's made their mark).

Rules of Trans-Am adapted sometime in the mid to late 80's to allow full tube chassis machines with non-stock engines (this was in response to IMSA's GTO and GTU classes, which were stock engines in tube chassis).

Factory involvement slipped to solely Camaros and Mustangs until the late 90's when Chevy made a push with Corvette skinning, Archer Motorsports came up with a Viper program (complete with a 5.0L version of the Mopar Racing sprint car engine), Qvale used their Mangusta, Panoz their Esperante, and Jaguar signed up with Gentilozzi's Rocketsports racing to run the XKR with Ford V8's until they figured out rules for fuel injection and multi-cam engines.

Unfortunately, all but Jaguar have dropped support in favor of ALMS, Grand Am, or Speed World Challenge programs.

To make matters worse, SCCA Pro Racing sold the Trans-Am name rights to Gentilozzi for what has become his series as a sideshow to the faltering ghastly series CART. He's the dominant owner driver (the five Jags on his team take up the first five spots like clockwork, and usually have the field covered by several seconds) and because of him (and the ridiculously high price of Jag parts which are the only "up to date parts") teams are dropping from Trans-Am like flies. Most either leaving for Speed World Challenge, Grand Am Cup, or the Rolex series (provided there's funding).

The real deal is AGTC (American Grand Touring Challenge) which is basically comprised of GT1 club racers (the classification for Trans-Am spec cars that race on the club level), former Grand Am AGT class cars (as that class has been dissolved), old IMSA GTO/GTS class cars, Trans-Am cars, and road racing spec NASCAR/ASA/ARCA/Winston West/USAR late model stock cars.

The AGTC maintains balance between the multiple variations on the carbed or fuel injected OHV V8 with tube chassis formula through a series of checks and balances which cover fuel load, tires, and weight. It makes for a much more competitive field and gives everyone a chance at the purse.

AGTC is still growing and is only in its second year of existence. The fields are taking time to develop, the purse is small, and there are no real plans to court manufacturers (as that's been poison for Trans-Am and other series). However, fans are moving quickly towards this series because it features real competition and a great variety of the cars they love.

Here's the other beautiful part of it. The series is SCCA sanctioned, just like Formula Drift. If Gentilozzi does kill Trans-Am (which is guaranteed since he's an absolute f*cktard) then SCCA will give the name to the enthusiasts who run AGTC (who were originally going to have the Trans-Am name, but Gentilozzi pitched a fit about time left on his contract)

Personally i picked Trans AM because im not all the familiar with JGTC. I do admit that the cars look beautiful on JGTC, but the brute power of those domestics gives me goosebumps! Maybe if they showed some JGTC on Speed ill be good!

Oh, I thought you meant old school Trans Am. That series was awsome! Camaros, Mustangs, Cudas, Javelins, Chalengers. Basicly, a muscle car guys wet dream. I like NASA's American Iron. It's alot like the old Trans am, with differet sections for different modifications.

Octagon, You always impress me with the knowlege you have of the racing community.

The thing that bothers me about JGTC is all the hype behind it. It seems that anything JDM right now is cool. There are other sports car series that are alot better then JGTC.

So true Alex. Some people almost see it as something they cant have but they still like it. I personally think its awesome with all the tuners they got working on those cars, its basically your garaged car with like 500hp! To be, those numbers coming from a import and being reliable to the point were it compete well is just amazing. Still series like the German Touring cars are awesome but arnt passed on americans TV. Oh well I'll just make a satellite that transmits it to the american audience!

Yahh viper is in the 300 class which make little sense then again if US brands sold in Japan that would change.

? umm is the JGTC viper powered by the v10 cause 300hp, like is it running on 6 cylinders or somthin?

i would agree. But like nascar jgtc is packed with action. People during a alms race or gt1 race tend to get bored. I've been to few and man the first few laps are awesome after walking about Road america 3 times though you tend to get really really tired and unintrested.

Jgtc just like nascar is tightly packed and always has some action going on. There is Always movement in the postion and crashes which every one loves to watch no matter how distrubing it is. This is why i also like the the speed challenge its the same way there is always a good battle for the postion if 1st is dead lock than there is always another battle to watch.

but this IMO and i could be totaly wrong.
