FSR, I really liked this part, you got alot of bonus points in my book for this phrase....
The car tells you what you need to know, and if you can't feel what the car is saying, you have a long way to go before you can call yourself a drifter anyway...

I guess it just comes down to this,

Its cool that you came on here to let us know about your product Julian Thomas, and i'm glad you have spent some time rather then just posting and not paying attension to us anymore (which does give you alot more credibility). And im sure the box will prove itself and use of data over time.

To alot of us, the sport of drifting is more the fun factor then the racing/competition factor. But since that sport is getting more competitive to get sponcerships and money to run in the big events, we have a choice to use all technology available to us or just let it ride and see what happens.

I remember seeing a post a long long time ago about how a drift box would be used to keep also judge the proximity of the cars in a tandem competition.

Also, I swear that I saw two GT4 pictures with Nomukens BLitz Skyline and the Genki S15 in the driftbox.com website. Does that mean that GT4 incorporated the concept of the driftbox in the game?

BTW, as far as I know, the statistics obtained from the drift box can help drifters collect data for their drift car so that adjustments can be made in the garage/pit area/overall driving style. Plus, it would be cool to have data relayed in magazines that say "the fastest drift with the most angle on this track was held by this car that went this many degrees on this turn at this speed". This will challenge people to do better. But for real-time judging, it would only serve as an interesting fact.

And if you really wanted to hit that style factor, what about a proximity sensor to the edge/nearness to the outside/inside of a turn? That tecnology is being used by SUV's nowadays for backing out of parking spaces without hiting stuff and for parallel parking. The proximity factor for tandem drifting would be nice too.

Smoke produced, decibel sound readings, and all that good stuff. In the end, however, if all facets of the style factor is listed down and is part of the drift box, the only use for judges is the celebrity status they would bring to the events. I'm not sure whther thats a good thing but if an ultimate drift box is made, the sport would get more and more competitive because the drivers would know what exactly to improve upon. Competitivness based on the most excinting refined style. Of course, though, that the drift box is just for collecting data, not to drive for the drifter.

wish there was a box in chris' car so i knew how much angle he had in this picture. "]

or i guess i could just base it off of the yellow line at the botto of the track and guess that he was something around 87-88 degrees........

Maybe we should let robots drive the drift cars, too! Then the computers can judge their runs... and then lets just have live web cams at the events, then the fans wont even have to leave there homes! Wouldn't that be fun??? THIS IS *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored*ING DRIFTING!!! Leave the computers home.

...or how about getting NASCAR drivers to judge the competitions... Seriously, then they'd be all "I dont know whaaa all these here rice burnin vehiculars are driiivin' awlll crazy like! What the dang heck are they doin'?" I mean it's nascar, they're all about removing the fun from driving... maybe drifting could be next!

Yeah, I bet you could control a car SO much better when the rear end gets wiggly at 190+ mph. Thanks for the laugh.

I didn't bother reading pages 3 & 4 but here is the problem I see. Sure, you might be able to pull off a huge angle drift, but your entry and exit is probablly going to look like crap.

Like everyone else has said, a machine can't judge style, period. And I like everyone's view on nascar, "ah man all they do is turn left, so damn easy". Well those guys are millionares so why are sitting in front of the computer, you could go get sponsored and be making millions of dollars to just turn left!
