  • Hard Drive / World Drift Championships already struggling?

I just got word that the March 11th-12th event has been CANCELLED, while the April 9th Phoenix event (which was slated to go head to head with Formula D's season opener in NJ) has been POSTPONED.

While there is no official word on the site, I can assure you that this is from a very trusted source.

Not a good way to start out the season if you ask me...

EDIT: i checked their website (www.harddrivelive.com) and the first two events have been dropped, and the drifting stuff has changed. Not sure what to make of it.

Primedia "struggling" is a kind way to put it. If you look at their event series as a whole, currently they have already cancelled the first 3 events of 2005 and its only February!!!

        Confirmed Cancellations:
        - Hard Drive Live, Los Angeles: March 11th-12th

        - Tuner Bash Afterdark w/ Import Showoff, Las Vegas: March 18th -20th

        - Hard Drive Live, Phoenix: April 15th -16th

The only other promoters to cancel their events within the first 3 months of the new year was in 2004..."Fast and Furious Music Tour" by Extreme Autofest and "Traxion" by Modified Marketing. Both shows talked the big talk but when it came down to "making things happen", things didn't happen. Hence, their shows don't exist anymore.

They say, "history repeats itself", if this is true, Primedia looks like they are ready to learn a lesson.

        JDM till INFINITY!!!!!

                  hahaha.

who created wdc? who was running it? primedia?
i think the only way for it to be successful is to be a feeder series for Formula D. with all the new drivers wanting to run fd, there will be no room for them and will discourage them from competing

WDC has been big time dream sinc 03 sema. I 'member seeing proposals for it since then. still nothing really happens. Big stroke job IMO.

WDC was created by someone else (can't remember names, sorry), and Primedia is partnering with them as part of the Hard Drive Live tour. My understanding is that although Primedia is involved in promoting the tour and WDC, it is actually run by a seperate company (similar to how Slipstream promoted the first D1, but D1 was still by the Japanese company which has since taken on the promotion on their own)
