you are right, i wouldn't want to be drifting a 40,000 dollar car either.
I would get the rx-7 but thats just me, i would ask to test drive it first and see if any thing is wrong with it.

some car dealerships are shady, def. do a compression test and take a good look at it, maybe bring someone with you that has a fc...

the e30s are good cars, pretty quick stock, hav a normal lsd lol, and are pretty reliable, thats defianlty an option...

get the fc its better for the long run, since you got parts at pretty cheap prices, and if yu break a bumper its cheap to repair. get a evo, youll never be able to afford this sport ever again.

fc is the way to go. and alot easier on the pocket for my 2 cents.

i just checked out(thusrsday) the fc with the salesperson.....
...turns out he can't sell it yet due to some overheating problems....
(most likely the radiator, it looked real bad)
well today i just drove past the dealership and he just got a white fc convertible in...i'm going to check it out later...

-with the evo, i was looking at the MR model and man that's hot.....but I don't want a new car and (going off topic for a sec) isn't the new evo 9 suppose to come out this year(i read it on car and driver i think)

                  fc....turbo...long run?

i'm a fan of the rotary but for someone with (so it seems) limited mechanical knowledge, id stick with german engineering representing doichland yeaaa

An rx7 w/ a overheating problem.. i wouldnt even consider buying. It could have a bad coolant seal. Let them fix the radiator if it still has overheating issues then yup that engines toast.

As far as which car you should get. It all depends heres how i see what could happen.

                    A) you get the rx7 since you want a car you can drift / race and stuff. But keep in mind its an old car so there bound to be problems. You might find yourself spending more money to fix the thing than actually buying aftermarket parts for it. Not to mention if the car is down you wont have a car to drive anymore.

                    B) Get a new car and enjoy it as is w/o any problems. Then get another car later on to play with. So that if that car is not running you still have a car to drive.

I vote in the TII's favor you should get it! I say screw new cars. they are heavy, and way too expensive.

Oh, it has overheating issues huh. hmm. It could be the coolant seal, or it could also be a radiator leak, and needs to be "topped off". I would but it anyway. If the motor would need to be rebuilt then buy a Jspec TII motor, and rebuid the one you have. Then you would have 2 nice motors.

Convertibles are heavier then the coupe models. Although they are still sweet looking.

I'd get the TII coupe still.

Just because you get a new car doesn't mean it has to be $40K. I bought my car brand new last year and it already has over 36,000 miles on it due to all the events and stuff. Not to mention the abuse that the drifting has put on her. I have no regrets buying my car and doing what it was designed for: Driving.

Still, if you harbor feelings about not being secure with a new car then don't do it. Find something used by at least somewhat reliable. An FC wouldn't be on the top of my list since rotories are prone to having things go wrong and they also eat gas like it's free. This is especially true if it was to be my daily driver. If I had a seperate DD, then I'd be all over an FC tho. Cars are so sexy...

I love the FC's, and in a properly tuned FC you should see about 20 mpg daily-ing it. Therein lies the problem tho... not too many people around that are too knowledgable in keeping it tuned right. Unless you're willing to put in the wrench time yourself and learn the car, it could get pricy.

If it already has overheating issues, Id be very wary of buying it... get an independant compression test at the very least, be sure to see it start up when cold and see if its smoking or hesitating, or just how its idling. See what sort of history you can get on it. Thats the biggest regret I have in buying my FC... I have no idea whats been done to it. Other than that, I love it.
