SAN JOSE GRAND PRIX TO HOST FORMULA D "DRIFTING"
SAN JOSE, CA - - MARCH 21, 2005 - - Formula D's premiere drifters will showcase their talents during the San Jose Grand Prix, July 29-31 on the streets of San Jose, California.
The San Jose Grand Prix will be the second time Formula D will join the Champ Car World Series. The series will make its Champ Car and professional street drifting debut at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 8-10.
The Long Beach and San Jose drifting events are just two examples of the recently announced alliance between the Champ Car World Series and Formula D, and another example of Champ Car's active dedication to youth auto culture and young enthusiasts. The top Formula D drifters will take to the streets Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the San Jose Grand Prix for full-circuit choreographed, precision tandem and multi-car drift exhibitions. Sunday's drifting will immediately precede the running of the inaugural San Jose Grand Prix. On-track drifting action will be complemented by a vendor row and show cars.
"This year Formula D will go to venues that have never seen drifting," said Formula D principal Ryan Sage. The Champ Car events in Long Beach and San Jose will be the crown jewels of the partnership between Champ Car and Formula D."

The 2005 Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford season promises to make history for Formula D drifting and Champ Car as they each seek to appeal to a wider audience.
There will be three drifting exhibitions during the three-day San Jose Grand Prix weekend. The first exhibition will take place on Friday, July 29 at 7:45 a.m. from 4:45 - 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, July 30, Formula D takes to the track at 9:30 a.m. for their second demonstration. The third and final drifting show will be on Sunday, July 31 from 12:15 - 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by the main event the Champ Car World Series race, which is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
The inaugural San Jose Grand Prix, which is the eighth stop on the 2005 Bridgestone Present The Champ Car World Series schedule, will not be confined to activities at the track. The schedule also calls for a week of activities in downtown San Jose including music, fairs, charity events and promotional activities. The week long festival is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of fans to northern California's largest city and become a mainstay on the Champ Car World Series calendar.
