having it on the first and last of the month would make it on back to back weekends 1st and 3rd or 2nd and last weekends would make more sense.

I still don't think it's a profitable business model. Do the drifters love the idea? of course. But long term profitability is most important.

Anyone know details about ebisu? when it's open, what other events are there, pricing, etc... ?

ebisu is almost open 4-5 days a week...

It sits on alot of land owned by kumakubo's family, and they have several tracks on the grounds and run motorcycles, open wheel, you name it.

PLUS they used capital from their zoo to build the racetracks, which makes it a unique situation..

events run around 80-100 for <b>all day</b> drift days and such. each person has their own personal stall space as well.

not to burst anyones bubble or anything, but just thought id do a little homework about this. i read the track facts about california speedway ill give you guys the link http://www.californiaspeedway.com/track/TrackFacts.jsp thats how big it is and heres the timeline on how long it took for them to open the track http://www.californiaspeedway.com/tr...ckTimeline.jsp. to brief it up if you dont feel like reading, it nearly took em about 2 yrs just for the county to approve and licensing Penske speedways and Kaiser Ventures Inc.(2 big corporations with MONEY) that they can finally begin to construct the cali speedway. and another 2 yrs (total of 4 yrs) to construct cali speedway. plus i might add into consideration that these 2 are backed with sponsorship thru a lot to make this track happen. list of sponsors: http://www.californiaspeedway.com/track/Sponsors.jsp just thought id give you guys an example on what it takes to start this project. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned yet...but if you're planning to build a track in SoCal...you're going to have an extremely tough time. I'm not saying it can't be done...but need to understand that it will be tough.

Land in SoCal is expensive. If you want to build a track, it will have to be in a city that generates the majority of their revenue from commercial industry. A city like Long Beach, Carson, City of Industry, etc. Plus, you will have to coerce the city to let you build a track due to the projected amount of revenue (tax dollars) it will bring in (we all know it is about money in the end), as opposed to allowing another developer come in and build say...a shopping mall.

Good luck trying to find this magical plot of undeveloped and available land.

Just generating revenue from drifting isn't a smart move. You would want to be able to rent the track out to a number of other types of venues, not just drifting. Example, movie location filming, automotive vehicle testing, etc.

The track will still have to be located reasonably close to major freeways. If it isn't close enough, then it makes it less desireable. Not only that, but if a movie production company wanted to drive their trailers to the track,...they would be less inclined to do so if they can't get their movie trailers there easily. Heck, how will Falken Tire get their enormous trailer to your track? If you went to D1, try to picture ALL of the enormous trailers trying to get to your track.

The track has to be close enough to compete w/ Irwindale, California Speedway, and Willow Springs.

And these are only some of the things that I'm mentioning.

          Good luck.

                Hey Charlie,

I think its a great idea! The more it can be open, the better. And if it's a challenging course with spectator availability, I don't see why it couldn't be a profitable venue for professional and amateur events for several organizations. Keep us updated as to your progress with the track. I've been meaning to come to a JustDrift event, so I'll see you around. Good luck!

Thanks for doing your Chemistry Homework, but this is Calculus mate...

Cali speedway A. is a HUGE track meant for Nascar. And B. It was proposed to be in a developed, somewhat residential area, they had to buy the land, and start from square 1.

Contrastly, the proposed track at WSIR has to do none of that. LIKE MENTIONED A LONG TIME AGO, The owner of WSIR wants to do this, he has acres and acres of undeveloped land (more of his land is undeveloped than developed in the WSIR complex, infact), and he has the money to front. So this situation is entirely different than your Cali Speedway example. Money+land+desire to do so=new track as long as there is a consumer need to fit this and make it profitable.

If done right (like Ebisu or Sekia), karts can be run on it, grip days, sport bikes, and the main thing: drifting. versatility can be built into the track with different "loops" and junctions, to be blocked off depending on what configuration is being run.

So basically...you need more people to show up to JustDrift events, to prove to the owner that "if you build, they will come" ??

If so, will you be having events at other parts of WSIR or only in the Balcony part??

They have an Irwindale-sized oval track with an infield section (right now its actually shaped like 2 capital "D"s put back to back so you can run it figure-8 style. Entry into the main corner would be 3rd or 4th, down to 2nd! NICE!

Also, with JD Expert class certification, we can run on Horse Theif Mile.

The Oval would be for JD/DriftDay Advanced drivers and above.

Balcony would be for beginner/Intermediate. Possible instruction and whatnot if there is a demand for it.

The proposed facility would encompass all these, plus be a premiere venue to hold higher-level competitions. AWESOME.

Oh alright...it would be awesome to see some guys take up Horse Theif Mile...that track is sick! Would it be required to have cages for that track? Considering I've heard of a few rolling on certain turns...

thanks lindsay! you're the official spokes person of justdrift now! you're hired!

marlyn, just to clarify something - yes, we want people to show up at justdrift events but not cram it up. we have 2 day events now to avoid 500 people waiting in line. we are still on the "seat time" rule and at most, we have 30 drivers only. but we have a ladder system to protect our advance drivers.

sounds like a great idea, charlie... just try not to make it all left turns this time, yeah?

i'd definitely be down for events there, and it'll be nice having a track designed for and dedicated to drifting... with as many events as possible. let's encourage kids to ditch school for dorifto!

just make sure there's a wide variety of corners at different speeds... some low-speed stuff mixed in with a few higher-speed corners, like high 3rd or 4th gear entry (something we can't get at parking lot events... or pretty much anywhere except Buttonwillow)...

how much space do you have for this track?

bla bla bla... okay, what i meant to say is YES. I GO TRACK.

God damn people, read the whole thread before you write a reply. It would take less time to read the thread than to write your well-thought-out but irrelevant post on why this idea wouldn't work.

                              That out of the way....AWESOME!

That is so cool that the tide has turned at Willow Springs management...I can't wait to see what comes out of this. It still costs a lot of money to build the track surface, but it's an incredible leg up that you already have the land and management support to pull it off. This is the kind of thing we dreamed of 5 years ago, before any of this had happened.
