  • ENJUKU Racing, Formula D (Press Release)

    May 9th, 2005

Orlando, FL...Round 2 of Formula D is completed in Atlanta, GA, and the entire stadium has been left in a cloud of red smoke. Enjuku Racing drivers Rob Fleming and Matt Vassallo have a lot to be proud of this weekend. In their second ever professional outing they placed 16th and 17th respectively, and allowed car #66 driven by Rob Fleming to advance into the Top 16 tandem battle. More noteworthy it seems is the debut of their new red smoking tires developed for them by Kumho Tire Co Inc.

from the Kumho May 6th Press Release:
"The ECSTA MX-C was developed at the KUMHO Technical Center in Akron, OH. “At a product meeting here late last summer, several people were talking about the sport of drifting,” said Guy Edington, manager of the Technical Center. “While watching a drifting video, someone opinioned that it would be cool if the tire smoke coming off the cars was colored.”

From there the idea blossomed, and Jim Palombo, KUMHO’s senior product chemist, and Gary Bradnick, lead lab technologist, set about looking for a way to make colored smoke. They developed the right mix of chemicals and now have a patent pending for their colorful compound (they’ve also developed a compound that produces blue tire smoke). Following successful testing, KUMHO produced a limited number of the tires."

The new tires debuted on Friday by Matt Vassallo sent the judges into a frenzy at the event, with standing applause by judge Tarzan Yamada. The reaction from the audience was none the less amazing and the fans cheered loudly every time one of the red terrors would smoke past the grandstands. Drivers Matt and Rob are extremely excited to be using the new product, as it performs every bit as well as the normal ECSTA MX, just with a little more flare.

Already a very large dealer of Nissan and other import parts, Enjuku Racing is working very hard to increase their presence in the market with their 2005 team. The same knowledgeable staff that customers talk to Mon-Fri at the Orlando store are the same ones driving, building, and maintaining the twin drift cars you'll see this season. Built in house with the same available parts on the Enjuku Racing website the cars have performed nearly flawless for their first two events, a testament to the product lines carried and the experience of Enjuku's staff.

Enjuku would like to thank all the support they received this weekend from their fans and customers, and we hope to keep this momentum moving forward throughout the 2005 season. Congratulations once again to Matt and Rob for putting on an impressive show for the Atlanta crowd this weekend! The team site can be found at www.TeamEnjuku.com and look for us at round 3 in Houston June 11th!

The ECSTA MX-C is produced in limited numbers, and is available by phone through Tire Rack and on Enjuku Racing's website www.EnjukuRacing.com.

Matt Vassallo is the driver of car #33. Matt is a Tampa/Orlando resident, and is an employee of Enjuku Racing. Matt 'Back' Vass has been featured in Option Video, Redline TV, and other local programs. Matt has driven at many large events, and was selected top 8 in the D1 drivers search in Homestead, FL on his first time out. Matt was also invited to Bristol Tennessee to put on a drift exhibition as one of the top four drivers from the East Coast.

Rob Fleming, the driver of car #66, is a Tampa Florida resident, and USF student. Rob comes to Enjuku as a new addition to the team this year. His background in driving includes rally, drift, and auto-x.

Established in early 2000, Enjuku Racing Inc., of Orlando, FL, has been growing strong since their doors opened to the Nissan community. With a high level of customer satisfaction and impressive sales, the 2005 season finds Enkuku Racing moving into their new Orlando facility. Enjuku Racing is a retailer of many different import parts. For more information please goto www.EnjukuRacing.com.

the tires are currently available to the public through Tire Rack or Enjuku Racing.

as far as other colors go, there is talk of us getting some other colors, but we'll have to wait and see on that one. but they do have patents on them, so its a definite possibility.

Wow, is that a typo at $1999.99 each? Or is that a way to not have to sell them to the public? $8K for a set of 4 tires just seems a bit overpriced. At least it should be something larger than a 17" tire I would think.
