  • Ueo @ Drift Session, Oahu, HI.

Simply the best time I've ever had at an event, and the opportunity to hang and learn from one of the best Hachi drivers ever...woah...it was an experience. Thanks to Abunai Racewear and Justin Carvalho for bringing over Ueo, as well.

Ueo took the time to drive and ride along with MANY of the DS regular's cars and gave them pointers on how they could improve the tuning and their own technique. He gave us all many demos and many very helpful lectures on drifting, along with just having a damn good time. We hope that we left a good impression of Hawaii drifters on him. He had some great and insightful tips on ways to make the experience more enjoyable and as safe as possible for all our drifters.

What I thought was one of the most exciting parts of the day...was a 5-lap race with Ueo driving one of our drifter's cars (Royce Fujimoto) with Royce in the passenger seat against three of our best and talented drifters...Barry Wong, Shige Hirabayashi, and Kolu Lau. These guys did their best and did some spectacular drifting against Ueo, even though in the end, he was able to pass them all and win the race. It was pretty damn cool...I thought Ueo might not be able to beat them, because they were putting up some major smokescreen...but he really amazed us all with his skill behind the wheel. Ueo really focused on teaching our drifters some new things and improving their current techniques. In the end, Ueo had nothing but kind words for everyone and was an awesome guest.

I was really impressed with Ueo's love of drifting and his dedication to it...plus he's a friendly, funny, and sociable guy. We had a great time out partying with him the night before...and hopefully will tonight as well.

Here's some pics of the event...enjoy:

The Drift Session crew...Ueo is in the Gucci hat and black shirt.

    Ueo driving Royce Fujimoto's 86.

Giving Royce some helpful tips on better suspension settings...

    Drifting in Stanford Lau's 86

    Rocking it in the sweeper...

Ueo gets some Camaro loving...yeah...that's right...he's drifting a domestic.

Barry Wong, Kolu Lau, Katsuhiro Ueo, and Shige Hirabayashi after the 5-lap race.

Showing everyone the proper line for long course turn 1...at 115 miles an hour.

Today was the *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored*! haha...Ueo taught me a lot just by watching him drift my car. His style of doing things is a lot smoother then what I had been doing. At the next drift session I'm going to try and put these techniques into affect and see how they help me out. Man after only like three laps he was busting my car stupid sideways at like 60+mph haha. He told me that the only change he recommends is to change my rear tires to high performance tires. Saying that my rear had to little grip...but get this...he said my car was a GOOD DRIFT CAR! He said I don't need to adjust anything or change any parts. Just get new rear tires and it'll be great! haha...

Oh do you mind if I use those pictures of my car and me? O_o

How cool would it be if he likes the Camaro so much he takes a few over to Japan and starts competing with them? But then the prices for them will go way up and I'll never be able to afford one...

It was meant pretty much as a thank you for our regular drivers that have supported DS for the past 4 years. We didn't advertise...we didn't tell really anyone except our drifters. It was a one-on-one event for our guys, you know what I mean? There's was only a few members of the press there...so everyone had the opportunity to talk with Ueo at anytime they'd like...I think alotta the regulars really enjoyed meeting and talking with Ueo...it was comfortable though...it's not like he got swarmed by them all...just little groups throughout the entire day.

A few more...and one video of Ueo doing choku-doris down the long course turn 1...

                            Ueo in a Camaro, sweet.

Revlimit-Congrats on the compliments. I would've loved to have been there. It must've been great getting advice from one of the best. Be sure to post many juicy details on PowerSlideways forums

Soul--I know how you feel. After going to World Ford Challenge 8 and seeing Jr.'s ridiculous new 'Stang, 2000hp Pro-5.0's with trap speeds of over 215 mph, and so many nice Mustangs it's not-even-funny, riding home in a Taurus seemed so wrong. Now I really need to get the dual-exhuast on the 'Bird.
