just wondering if anyone have an experience with Tamron lenses.....I'm usually a Canon or nothing advocate but for the price of a Tamron vs a Canon.....its kinda hard to look away from it......

Also film eh? I was thinking about going that route as I learned about SLR's but being able to edit through photoshop and not needing to go to a lab to develop film.....I'm just lazy I guess hehe....

Geeze i need more experience under my belt as far as motorsports photography goes.....I got plenty of uhh war pictures? hehe....well good luck to all that entered....and i look forward to the pics you guys put up...(hopefully a crash too) well that is if, heaven forbid someone crashes.....

I'm always on a monopod when I'm shooting with the 300. When I was shooting at GT Live, all the photogs around me was checking if their shot was sharp after the cars had pass, at the same time I was standing there praying to God hoping my images are sharp LOL. I got access to a lab, so I don't really see a need to shoot digital.

i have that camera, it just sits because my mom switched to digital and doesnt use it anymore

For pure picture quality, the Tamron 28-75 F2.8 is a fantastic lens for static shots, and rivals the Canon equivelants for something like a 3rd of the cost. But when it comes to the longer telezooms and primes, anything from 100 to 400mm, Canon all the way. Generally you need the longer lens for shooting action, and for that, you need the most accurate and quickest AF on the lens that you can get. Canon kicks all sorts of booty when it comes to that.

Just remember - used Canon L lens are generally somewhat affordable, don't lose their value, and perform just as good as new if in good shape. My main long lens, a 300mm F4.0 Canon L non-IS, was bought used for $500usd, and consistantly outperforms everything else in my arsenal for pure picture quality.

        Cheers,

        Paul Hansen

I've checked up on a lot of reviews, and the tamron seems alright. The sigma stuff seems to be a bit higher quality and a bit more affordable than Canon stuff. I just picked up a sigma 70-200 f2.8 for 775 with UV and Polarizer shipped to my door, that's about the price of the 70-200 canon F4 w/out filters, and so far it's pretty nice.

when I was shooting my old canoon 75-300, I found that I was typically between 100 and 200 depending on the track...
