Wanted to say congrats to Kyle Arai for winning first place at the Sept 3 2005 Drift Showoff Comp in Hawaii. Final 4 consisted of two AE86 (Royce Fujimoto and Justin Kikkawa), a S13 (Gene Cho), and a 4 door EF Civic (Kyle Arai). The judged portion of the course was a S-turn and then an Off-camber turn. It became clear in the beginning of the competition that if you couldn't connect the turns in 3 slides you were not going to place. Our track is very different from the types of tracks you guys see at the Mainland US competitions. This would be considered a lower speed course with a much higher possibility of crashing because of the barrier/guardrail about 4 feet trackside. Many cars ripped up their bodykits and dented their wheels going off course through the S-turn. The connection to the Off-camber turn is tough, full throttle to carry you the distance and then alot of braking with walls all around you (the Off-camber turn is a slow turn). Alot of guys had problems today, some of the mechanical, some guys just weren't having good days. Unfortunately there were a few crashes, 4 total. Didnt get her name but the girl from Drifting Pretty hit the concrete barrier kind of hard and totalled the front end of her S13, feel kind of bad for her. Our track is mean to drifters. Final 4 was really good, Kyle was able to connect all the turns without losing speed, and smoking it from all 4 wheels the entire way. Crowd went wild and thats all she wrote. Congrats to Kyle, and Congrats to all the other drivers that were there competing. I'd say we had about 20-30 guys hitting it up mean, really good to see the drifting scene in Hawaii come out full force. Very few of our drivers are sponsored so to see the way the cars looks and the skill of the drivers, it was great. I'll be posting some pics sometime tonight ...

The track is definetly different, it's not as big as the mainland tracks, but it is very technical, twisty, and very snug. You don't have a huge amount of room, either. I'd say it's very similar touge-style, except you don't have cars coming at you.
There's quite a few pics here (I linked a few) And no..the Bb didn't drift

It was an honor for me and Ben to judge
the Falken Drift Showoff in Hawaii !!!
I was really impressed with all the drivers
for their craftsmanship in building cars and
their driving skills. I've always heard that
Hawaiians are good, but I was able to see
that in my own eyes. It was a difficult event
for many of you with only few practice laps
and changing road conditions, but you guy/girls
did very well !!!
Great job! and I hope to be able to be back
again if I get the chance!!!
