Flame me all you want, I honestly dont care. Street drift>Track drift. Just because its free. I say spend your money on better things and go drift on the street.....just make sure its away from houses/cars/people.

do these events have instructors? or just mr. curb to take your car out of commission and mr. police to give you felony charges?

Well i have about 4k in suspension maybe a little less but with alignents and corner balance probably real close to 4k and a differential and I love my car. Do the suspension first and learn to drift with less power in the end you will be a better drifter. Tandem runs with sr guys I usually gain on them or at least keep up and I only have a stock ka.

Ive been to a quite a few drift events, ranging from beginner to pro drifting. Ive also witnessed street drift in Japan. So, I know the consequences and rewards of each. Sure, you can wreck your car on the street, and sure you can get tickets. This is overcome by 1. Stick to parking lots and large intersections. Sure you can wreck, but if you use large areas, your chances decrease. 2. Going to places WITHOUT COPS. I bet Cali has a lot more cop activity than AZ. I know plenty of areas really close to me that are industrial-ish and have almost NO cop activity in the daytime (much less at night). So there. Problem solved.

I dont know about your local track days, but I've seen alot of crashes at our local track events. From the minor fender bender, to the harsh high speed frame benders, to even the horrible airborne flips (this has happened multiple times at our track). I've seen more crashes on the street, but I must admit none as bad as the ones I've seen at the track. On the street I've seen curb damage, wall damage, tree damage, but nothing airborne hehe. I think people just push it more at the track, higher speeds. Now if you're having drift events in a parking lot, then sure you probably wont have many/any crashes, but then again, you're not really drifting on a track. Its a parking lot with cones, no punishment for screwing up. At our local track and on the street you get punished if you screw up, your car gets damaged. Dont really need someone to tell you that you did something wrong. I think its much safer and smarter to be doing it at a track, but I gotta admit the streets are much more fun. No track beats a good mountain road.

Im not saying go drif ton the streets... Im saying that its better to wreck your car at the track then it is to get it impounded for reckless driving and exhibition of speed. Ive heard of people getting street racing fines for it too, jsut because their friend were around.

I know every state is different, but me and about 6 of my friends got our cars impounded, and we were fined because we were sitting in a parking lot and the police had reports of 'street racing' in the area, so they see 7 "import" cars in 1 parking lot and they think hey our jobs done, he they are. Even though we got out of it in the end it still was a giant headache to have to get the cars and go to several court dates etc...

I think what im saying here is no matter how "far" you are away from everything its more than just wrecking your car that you have to worry about, and not only do you risk more headache than its worth, you give everyone in that area with an import car a bad rap with said cops. Spend the $100.00 and take it to the track, its fun and you can let it hang out more.

::disclaimer:: I dont have anything against the police, i wouldnt want their jobs.

Also, by no means am I a saint when it comes to cars, heck i have gotten 50 speeding tickets in 10 years. But with that comes the exerience of what can happen when things like this end up bad. But to each his own i always say.

Speaking out my @$$? How so? And no, its not that I dont want to spend 100$ on an event, its that I dont have a proper drift car. So no, I dont drift. Woopty doo! I am just offering my opinion as to what I would do with my money in his case. Why do I have to have drift experience to do that?

why? cuase you have never drifted on the street or the track, so you CANNOT compare the two.
