Shark to Offer Special Sponsorship to Qualifiers at D1 Grand Prix December 16-17 at Irwindale Speedway
Torrance, Calif. (December 6, 2005) Shark Energy Drink has been enhancing performance since 1965 and will now be enhancing the careers of some up and coming drift drivers with cash sponsorships at the D1 Grand Prix, December 16th and 17th at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, California. The event, pitting US drivers against the leaders of the sport from Japan, will include a qualifying round on December 16th and the D1 Grand Prix on December 17th.
Shark, available in over 60 countries and growing rapidly in the United States, is providing a sponsorship package known as The “Shark Pack,” which awards cash prizes to top qualifiers for Saturday’s main event.
“Shark Energy Drink gives you the energy and alertness you need to excel and reach new heights,” Said Alex De Gosztonyi, VP of Shark USA. “This sponsorship is rewarding those drivers that use all their energy to reach the ultimate goal – the D1 Drifting Grand Prix.”
In addition, drivers excelling in the final event will have an opportunity to join Shark’s other drivers and athletes with a long-term sponsorship. Shark currently sponsors Tino Krualphan, an up and coming drifter as well as a variety of athletes including surfers, skateboarders, and other international sports stars.

Drifting is the fastest growing sport in the US gaining major media attention for television, magazines (Esquire) and film (Universal’s 2006 release The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. The D1 Grand Prix will be covered by over 50 national and international media including Speed Channel, The Discovery Channel, and The Men’s Channel.
In preparation for the big event Shark’s pre-promotion will include radio remotes at the after-market mega store Autobacs in Stanton, California. Remotes will feature D1 cars, prizes, and special guests.
