i guess for some fun is the main reason. For many of the professionals out there, the whole purpose of the established rules and techniques is all about flash. If no flash was involved, then you would have cars that were built to go around a lot circuit faster, ala race cars.
Last year I went and paid like 20 bucks to get in NOPI nationals in ATL just to find out that the drifting exhibition was held out side in the parking lot for free. I caught the last drifting runs of the day when i was leaving but wished i had just parked my car there and watched it the whole day.
I agree that car shows are boring but fail to see how that will ruin drifting. Are you afraid that the ricer cars will distracted you from the drifting_ones?
