I think it will take some time to get the GTO right for drifting cause it is very heavy, but what I am saying is that you can't dismiss it because it's v8 powered. And as the Chaser is a 4 door supra the GTO is kinda like a 4 door camaro with a more advanced suspension. But moreover it's an around 30k car FR car that you can use all year round cause it's got abs and traction control plus great performance. Only time will tell but personally they should've used the Z06. Not only can it drift from the factory but it's only 3000lbs and has nearly 50/50 weight distribution. And why Rhys Millen? Him and his dad are good american drivers but they are Toyota guys. I mean why didn't they use somebody like John Heinricy who's been racing vettes forever. It would make since to me to use a 50k car that can drift already with a driver that knows the car rather than take a 30k car, spend 20k for parts and countless hours of r&d and then use a toyota factory driver.

who cares if the gto is in d1. it just came out so it might do bad. im not a fan of american cars, but just let it be. When i first heard about it entering, i was a little upset but if you really think about it, it may not get far in the competiton. Who knows, the japanese d1 drivers might be laughing about it or they may like, we'll never know. but i dont think you'll see them expierementing with it now do you? drifting is popular stateside now. Whoop di dooo. live with it. its better. more LEGAL events.

Dodge is a division of daymler chystler or however its spelled. Dodge is one of the "big three" Ford GM and Dodge. although like i said i guess now its really GM Toyota and Diamler Chrystler
Dodge Chrystler Mistsubishi, there all in bed in the same company.. though im not sure how autonomous mistu is, i've love to hear from someone who knows. Anyways the point is this Chevy and GM are a whole seperate company. Go back to car company basics 102 or something if you didnt know that one..

man, I love Japanese cars but US pride first (Filipino btw ). It's kinda wierd seeing a USDM car enter a JDM dominated sport but wierd in an exciting way. Seeing the Skip Barbers Mustang drift was kinda sad but the GTO just looks awesome. Never liked USDM cars but if the GTO can drift, I'll love JDM cars even more. Lol, i meant I will respect all the drivers, not the cars because a good drifter can drift a Freightliner. I mean, so what if it's USDM, it's the driver that counts right?
BTW, I hope that Formula Drift will become a nationaly known sport that appeals a helluv alot better than NASCAR that sponsers both JDM and USDM cars.Last edited by s0nny80y; 02-07-2004, 03:37 PM.

I cant believe you guys are comparing the GTO to a Cavalier. *slapping my head* The GTO is powered by a LS1 (same as Camaros, Firebirds, and Vettes), has a 6 speed T56 option (same as Camaros, Firebirds, Vettes and even Vipers, but different gears and syncros), and is RWD. The Cavalier is small displacement FWD sport compact. What are you guys smoking?
There is a single turbo kit out for LS1's right now that puts down over 700 rwhp on the STOCK LS1 MOTOR. Not that 700 rwhp makes the car drift any better, but do you see any Cavalier's doing that?! NOPE!
The key for the GTO will be suspension and weight balance. And since they are being backed by GM, you can pretty much guarantee these things will be addressed. Look how much R&D went into the C5-R ....

You are aware that Rhys rallied for Mitsubishi right? How can you classify him and his father as "Toyota Guys"? Rhys and his father can drive pretty much anything. You asked, "why Rhys Millen?", I respond, "why NOT Rhys Millen?" If Rhys can handle our beast of a Supra (weight wise), this GTO will be no problem for him. Pontiac is trying to show off their new car to the masses and this is a great opportunity. And this new GTO is a new beast, no one has driven it, no one KNOWS it. Rhys is learning the car as we speak. I personally think Rhys will do awesome in the D1! I just hope Samuel will give him atleast a run for his money. (Yes, I'm now biased... )
Prodigy said, "It has only two doors not four and it resembles a Cavalier more than anything. He is a good driver but being a pro he didn't do that well in the last D1."
Rhys placed in the Top 16 in the D1... how is that, "not well" when I believe he was only 1 of 2 U.S. drivers to make it to the top 16. Him and Ernie were the only 2 U.S. drivers I believe. He was pitted against Nomuken and he spun because the car ran out of turn angle. That problem was fixed for the Falken Drift Showoff when we changed steering knuckles and modified a few things and he ended up winning the competition.
Why can't people just be happy that a U.S. drifter is now sponsored by a major car manufacturer. This is a huge turning point in our sport. After going to many websites, it is obvious people are divided on this situation. Lets just be united in the fact that this event may open up doors for other drifters out there. Someone had to be the first one, and in my opinion, Rhys has earned it.Last edited by STFUAD; 02-07-2004, 08:37 PM.
