Haraguchi tore it up last year in both events he was in. Had mechanical issues in Seattle, but was VERY impressive at Irwindale if you ask me. He's back and bigger than ever this year, with his new drifting influence (you'll see at LB).
Darren's car was just re-done by Falken, making him an even bigger threat. Remember, he placed top 16 at D1 in December on both Saturday and Sunday, before the renovation. He's one to watch.
Calvin has 2 years of experience on the course. I believe he was the 17th qualifier last year. His car should be ready to rock.
Casper made every top 16 last year. He'll start the season in his S14.5, that car is more dialed in than the operator. You better believe he'll be a threat again!
Tyler will be in the JIC S15 (i believe) for the first event. The car kicks *Censored**Censored**Censored*, and tyler came on HARD at the end of the season last year. He also has a lot of experience on tight street courses, both at LB GP last 2 years and SJ GP.
Kazu tore it up last year, he was a top 3 qualifier at both of the events he made it to last year. and Signal has always torn it up at FD. The combination should be deadly.
Taka is the most dominant Corolla driver in FD history, being the only Corolla to take a top qualifier spot, and the only Corolla to consistently get Top 16. You think Ruskakoff is going to step into FD and dominate over Taka, just like that? sure, his S2k motor transplant is cool and all, but I don't think he'll overtake Taka in his first FD event.
Nick Hogan has improved, but I don't think he's top 16 material yet. Remember, he barely made top 16 on the second day in Laughlin... I don't think he'll qualify ahead of 30 or so other drivers into the top 16... Not his first time out.
What car is Chris Cook driving? How much seat time did he have? he did 'good' at both the D1 vs Nascar event, and D qualifying search, but again, I don't think he's FD top 16 material just yet.
I think Ryuji Miki is a great driver, but I'm not sure he'll be dominant in the car he just jumped into. Give him an event or two, and I see him winning a few tandem rounds.

I won't lie, my pics are meant to inspire discussion. Looks like they are doing a good job.
One thing that I do see as a positive, there are a lot more then 16 drivers who should be in Tandem.
TIME FOR TOP 32 TANDEM FORMULA D.
http://www.driftlive.com/dl/2007/03/...32-highlights/
Lets leave the Top 16 stuff for college basketball and get rid of all the single runs on competition day. Leave those for unseeded qualifying.
Fans want tandem, not single runs.

I was just about to say, I think driftlive's picks were for the sake of the contest "Using the comments feature below, tell us why you agree or disagree with our predictions for Long Beach ".

"Miki isn’t as good as everyone has been portraying him as. The dude only had one good year… lets look at the time line.
Overall season points for miki.
2001- 4pts
2002- 6pts
2003- 20pts
2004- 110pts (he won that year)
2005- 1pt…
2006… I don’t know what happened, maybe he just wanted to focus on grip driving or top secret gave up on him after a crappy season in there new RB powered Z. But he just sat the whole 2006 series out… He only had one good year, and it seems like it was because all the other drivers lost there consistency, that was Taniguchi’s best year(points wise) and he miki still out scored him by 26 points!!! That was also a transitioning period for D1, they cut out small kart circuits like Bihoku and Nikko and ran longer road courses like Autopolis, and Tskuba… total diferent style of drifting came upon them. Dude comes from a grip background so…
I’m not saying he isn’t skilled, if he would have kept the same car in 05 he probably would have pulled off a decent season. But overall he only had one good year. Oh yea not too mention he has only gotten first place once… Its pretty crazy how he scored 110 points that year with only 1 first place finish though… kinda cool. I think its kinda ironic how the same thing happened to Imamura after he switched to the same Z33, went from 5 good seasons, scoring over 50 points in each one too 12 points in his 06 season. Imamura is still the highest scoring overall driver in D1 of all time.
But yea, he hasn’t been in competition in a long time and isn’t use to the Formula D style of tandem"

Team Milano
I wouldn’t count out the MILANO guys, Hubert Young and Chris Milano, I saw them at NOPI and they were tearing in up.
Me and my boys went and talk to them at Phoenix… Pretty nice dudes, we even met with RB/VQ motor specialist from RB motoring, I think his name is Sean Morris, and the SCCA Champ dude Andrew Fernandez from San Dimas Auto… a lot of technical terms when they try to explain tuning, dyno, suspension setups….I hear those guys are the Chief Crews that are running Team Milano.
That’s *Censored**Censored**Censored* kickin’ to the fullest, man.
Can’t wait to see them at Long Beach, OHH BABY…gettin' the chils
