Today's event turned out a handful of spectators with a tremendous amount of energy. The crowd rooted for there favorite drivers, egged on the sloppy, and kept ranting for, "MORE SPEED! MORE SMOKE!"
Unfortunately, I couldn't get in contact with BlahMat today. I was hoping to join him track side with all the drivers. I couldn't find Owen, nor did I have a phone to call him, so I had to sit in the grandstands.
I'm glad I did, I met a lot of interesting people wondering around the small crowd. As the day went on, a group of us continued to keep the energy going. I asked the DJ's in the grandstand to turn up the volume. The crowd enjoyed the riffs of Deftones and the stereotypical soundtrack from the popular videos, Drift Works.
I met an older lady who kept complimenting Roland Gallagher, and Rob (Primo?) as they tandemed around the Evergreen track. I was entertained when she started criticizing one of the other black 240sx hatches! "Obviously this guy isn't hitting the clip points," she said with a concerned voice. I felt like I was back in high school watching a football game, with parents rooting for there kids and criticizing the coach. The lady continued, "now look at that," and pointed towards Roland Gallagher as he tore up the inner bank. The audience gasped as he almost almost ruined a perfect run. The hairpin turn put him inches away from the speedway's wall.
Eventually I was able to meet Owen, The Big Cheese of Evergreen Speedway. I introduced himself and my friends Dustin (intarwebdriftur), Hachi enthusiast and Cinematographer, Travis Leamer. He allowed us to approach a few safe spots where the audience was not allowed. I managed to get a few good shots. Travis and Dustin clocked some video footage to add to the stock.
I met another photographer on the way, Vanessa. She wielded an older Canon film based EOS and a $600 lens. I asked her what her last name was and she said, "why?" Kode replied, "BECAUSE HE'Z GOIN T0 STALK YOO!!!" I laughed, I should have smacked him. I told her, "because I will probably be seeing your photography all over."
Onward into the night, Zach (1985zman) and his group came walking out of the pits. He told me a few stories about what happened track side. I was disappointed that the track officials denied entrance. What do they have against me?
That still doesn't stop me from taking shots of you guys on the track. A lot of them didn't turn out, but at least you will have memories to hold onto. Eventually, I hope that these pictures will end up in the right hands. I will continue contributing to the community and bring out the northwest. Keep tearing up Evergreen and encourage your friends to tag along.
