    Maxxis Car Style

Our plan is to change away from the white vehicle we currently use, but we also chose the white due to its' name "Nissan Pikes Peak White" - it meant something. Upon our sponsorship with Maxxis Tires we looked to have the maxxis logo integrated into our blue/white scheme, but unfortuanately to obtain the contingency money (which is a big thing) we needed to run the full Maxxis logos size-color-shape on the vehicle to play by the rules. Hence, we tried to do what we could with the car. We have never asked this, but does our car come under the "lack of style" so many point too?

I do know that white vehicles are difficult to photo and to video so we are looking into some other ideas.... Don't be surprised to see a new look in pittsburgh.

PS - I do like Forrest's car and the S15 that was shown earlier. The problem with many japanese vehicles is that while they are a work of art, they take a long time to read/understand. Many Japanese drift cars have sponsor decals/placement that are absolutely impossible to read at speed or for the fans to identify with. Keep this in mind for the video coverage.

Take a look at the coverage by Power TV. Tell me how many sponsors you can read on each drift car - If the sponsors don't see their name - why would they provide product or money? For teams/driver's that have money regardless of sponsors they have the latitude of design to afford readability issues with graphics for the sake of style. We try to balance a bit of style with easily read decals for our sponsors.

Let us know what you think.

      *Bows to flybert*

As he pointed out, you can load your car up with vinyl and have it still look really good.

And its not even lower level J drivers either... does anyone remembers ueo's car when he was with cusco. When it was white with black and orange vinyl... that was sweet.

What about kazamas S15 when they first painted that beast green, at the time that was pretty fresh. Didn't have a nasty huge BF sticker on the side thats totally didnt match the car it self.

Sean, you seem to have totally forgotten when i said:

"Would I be happy if all the cars looked like Justin's and Stews would I be happy... even though there clean no because no sponsors would be getting notice."

No sponsors no pro events no pro drivers.

As a consumer... drivers slapping on big ugly stickers that dont match the color or shape of there car makes me not want to support the sponsor. Doesnt make me intrigued about the sponsors product what so ever. Cool your getting money, track time and tires, hats off....but your car is a poor representation in my eyes.

Oh yea, isn't Damien with dunlop?

Damien's car looks pretty damn good to me by the way. I actually went out a bought 2 sets of dunlop direzza DZ101 195-50-15... did dunlops clean cars and good driving from last weekends events influenced me? I would like to say no, but deep down inside I know it did. I did get a deal though... but you know thats the edge you get on a consumer by properly displaying and promoting a product... its a part of the business!!!!

I would have bought a set of maxiss tires too just to try them out... but I just dont know where to buy them at. Who's fault is that?

Oh yea, Vertex and work wheels might be cookie cutter... but its a damn nice looking cookie cut if you ask me. Its like being mad at someone for liking big tits and nice booty because thats what everyone likes. There's a reason why everyone likes it. I'm gonna market to the majority!!!

But hey... battleground cars are pretty cool. Those are just a few small things I would change

But we want to talk about business and representation now....

There's no comparing Sammy Tigers car to the RMR Pontiac red bull solstice.

Blake, without going into detail... I like your car alot!!! Keep up the good work

I also see what you are saying about the japanese styling and the difficulty to read the sponsors signs. Nice input!!!

        Q??? is your name Quaharr?

I known you, talked to you a few times in different myspace groups and at a few shows. But since when have you guys been into drifting? Thought you guys were mostly like a show team anyway.... with that burgundy eclipse with the sweet flower on the side but the automatic transmission?

I'm not trying to talk down on you, I know your a nice dude but uhh...those are fighting words coming from someone who's a president of what mostly is a show team.

I've been attending drift events grassroots and pro for about 4 years, I love seeing drivers laying down solid lines. But I like seeing people build clean cars / works of art and thrashing them all over the place with no disregard for body pieces and paint jobs. But dang, when someone is paying you to rep there company...make it look good!!!!! Don't throw the logo on your door and call it a day!!! Make it look presentable, make the spectator want to buy something. Thats why I love this sport, you can build your car too look like a total show stoper, but yet still have it engineered to do amazing things. Damn look at teams like night walkers in japan, drifting in 4 door toyotas with full interior and I.C.E. Luxury, Style, Engineering all thrown in one neet package

Apparently you dont know as much about the drift "culture" as you think you do.

But yea, nice motor on the Saturn, took a quick peak of it at the event. You came along way. Don't think I'm trying to bag on you or anything, I just think you cross the boundaries a little bit with that comment.

I think things are starting to get somewhat off topic here.

I meant for this to be a thread of feedback for the actual event and for spectators, vendors, media, and drivers to make suggestions to NOPI on what they did right and what they did wrong as far as this event.

While the style of drift cars is a valid discussion it doesn't really fit here ...mostly because NOPI can't really control how the cars look. All they care about is if it passes tech and is safe to run.

If you think the cars that ran at the event were ugly well you're entitled to your opinion of course...but NOPI can't change that.

Woah! Small world!! Yes I'm Qahhaar. Mariko imported the Eclipse to Japan and has started a club chapter there. I've always been into drifting but I have never had the right car to get into it myself. Also, if you know me then you know that I race the hell out of my car and so do a couple of my other club members. But now back to the point and I meant no disrespect or hostility towards anyone.

The sponsors give money in exchange for advertisment. They really don't care much about the style of the car as long is it get's photographed and the logos are visible and identifyable. I don't know about you but I don't know too many rich drifters that have no need for sponsors. If you were in the circuit and a sponsor offered you X ammount of money and parts, would you turn it down because you didn't like their logo? I don't think so.

Anyway, as Monkeyslide said, this is way off topic. Hit me up with a private message so we can continue this conversation. Plus I still can't figure out who you are yet.

Yeah I think we all already know how it is.

              USA drift style - $$$$$$$$$$

              style comes last, son.

              yeah!!!

wait hold on let me think.

you guys need to understand, these drivers get MONEY for the stickers they put on. The sponsors require a certain size/color/style to be displayed.
Come on guys.... it's all about the driving.

Pikes Peak white - named for this car - this poster --- just in case you wanted to know...

Justin and Forrest both did well. Both more grassroots guys with no real sponsorship. They are out there running out of their own pockets. NOPI is good as it gives these guys a place to shine. A place to get exposure, and a place to possibly pick up more help as the season progresses.

My biggest gripe was with the break in the action after top 16 for a bikini contest of all things. That was unbelievable. and maybe I am the only one who wasn't interested in seeing those girls being paraded on stage while the announcers told us all the really totally awesome things that these girls were into, it sounded like a laundry list of stereotypical dude activities, "drinking beer, watching the game, motorcycle, humping". ohh, and one of the asian girls favorite quotes is "me so horny".....awesome!! yeahhh!! so clever!! the announcers sounded like creeps during that whole debacle. The crowd was much smaller when top 8 started, and the drifting resumed unannounced..it seems like the mandatory break robs the spectators of what was an awesome top 16, and robs the drivers from being able to entertain a larger crowd. If bikini contests are some kind of nopi staple, have it when there is supposed to be a break....or realize it isnt 1997 anymore, and people dont need a bikini contest at a car event.

I think the overall issue here is that NOPI didn't really know what the West Coast drifting market would be like since this was their first time doing anything like this over here.

On the east coast they still appreciate the bikini contests and all of that stuff.

I dont think they realized that when it comes to the drifting crowd we're pretty much "over" that kinda thing.

Its an honest mistake though...I mean...most of the crowd DID go watch the bikini contest...but then again with no drifting Im pretty sure everyone would have left those hot a$$ stands for just about anything.

i went to www.maxxis.com and clicked on "shop maxxis" and found their tires.

They also have a "dealer locater" on their site that gives you a list of retail locations in your area. If you are too lazy to try something as simple as www.TheNameOfTheManufacturer.com as a good place to start shopping for that manufacturer's product, then you are probably beyond help.

LOL yea, I left the stands for a bit during the top 16/bikini contest break... but I was trying to find food... no food anywhere, everyone packed up and left before 5!!!!!

NOPI should send me a complintary pretzel or something lol jk.

But uhh... doesent nopi have a ex D1 USA organizer on there staff? He knows how we are on the west coast, and even if its not like that I'm pretty sure they didnt start a drift series with out ever going to one before....right?

I'll show up next year though... maybe they can get a better venue... they have a idea of what the west coast market likes now... should be better.

Lindsay and I got wild in the crowd.

                                You saw it, Adam.

                                hahahaah what a joke.
