Does that mean you could change the font (or something of that nature) and get out of compensating the designer?

Good question.

We will pay for "original designs" NOT generic concepts. Although we CAN use generic concepts, we recommend that you do not post them online.

To sum it up, if you have an "original design" then that will not happen. If you are unsure, then do not post the entire artwork in public.
