JIC Magic Official Press Release
6/12-14/2008 Formula Drift Round 3: New Jersey
ENGLISH TOWN, NJ – After extensive preparation, the JIC Magic / Hankook Tire Porsche rolled out of the transporter ready for competition. The Porsche hit the track in its inaugural runs on New Jersey’s English Township Raceway; a new track recently added to the Formula Drift Circuit. Having never raced at this venue before, the JIC Magic / Hankook Tire Team went to work, fine tuning the Porsche to suit the needs of this high speed course. This course begins with a high speed straightaway leading to a wide left turn with the first clipping point just mere inches away from the dirt, followed by a sharp left with an inside second clipping point, finishing off with a wide right to the checkered flag. Piloted by Tyler McQuarrie, the Porsche recorded the highest entry speed out of all the other competitors at over 80 miles per hour, while maintaining a deep angle with the help of the high gripping Hankook Ventus RS-2 Tires.
The JIC Magic / Hankook Tire Porsche took to the track as the Top 32 Qualifier began in English town. Practice the day before ran smoothly as the Porsche, piloted by Tyler McQuarrie, careened through the Jersey track with ease. The Hankook Ventus RS-2 performed flawlessly on the rough track surface, as the Porsche drifted through the course’s technical turn two. After several high speed practice laps, the team felt ready for battle as the Porsche began to line up to the starting grid. The Porsche blasted down the course’s initial straightaway; coming onto the first turn, Tyler hit the first clipping point with only half a foot from the clipping point cone; entering the second clipping point, Tyler finishes strong sending the Porsche towards the finish line and into the Top 32.
Spirits were high as the JIC Magic / Hankook Tire Porsche 911 GT2 entered competition day after qualifying at an impressive 3rd place, with the highest entry speed just one day before during the Top 32 Qualifier. Tyler McQuarrie in the JIC Magic / Hankook Tire Porsche kept to the speed trend he had all weekend; during the first run of the Top 16 Qualifier, Tyler clocked an astonishing 95 miles per hour going into the first turn hitting each clipping point with just a mere six inches of space between the point and the Porsche. An impressive display of speed and angle gave Tyler a solid score of 93.33 points out of one hundred. On the second run, Tyler pilots the Porsche at 83 miles an hour, a full 5 miles per hour faster than the next fastest competitor, scoring a strong 96 points, qualifying Tyler into an impressive 5th place spot with the highest entry speed all weekend.
With a 5th place position in the Top 16, the stage was set for the first match up, the JIC Magic / Hankook Tire Porsche versus Tony Angelo in his Mazda RX-8. Tyler, going full throttle, puts the pressure on Tony as he leaves almost no distance between the two cars defeating the RX-8 and moving onto the Great Eight. In the Great Eight, Tyler in the JIC Magic / Hankook Tire Porsche faces two time Formula Drift Series Overall Champion Samuel Hubinette in the Dodge Mopar Viper. With tires smoking, Tyler and Samuel begin their battle, leaving little space between them as they enter the first turn. Coming around turn two, the Dodge Viper tries to pull away from the JIC Magic / Hankook Tire Porsche, but the relentless Porsche stays within touching distance of the Championship winning Viper. With Tyler leading, the second run begins with both cars close in Tandem, but the Viper is no match for the power of the Porsche, and Tyler pulls away creating an enormous gap as he dashes to the finish line and victory, moving Tyler and the JIC Magic / Hankook Tire Porsche onto the Final Four. For the battle of the fours, the JIC Magic / Hankook Porsche faces Daijiro Yoshihara, last years Formula Drift 3rd place overall season contender. Through the first corner Tyler maintains speed with Daijiro, pulling towards him as they finish. With Tyler leading on the second lap, he immediately makes distance between him and the GTO, and as they exit the first clipping point, Daijiro is no match for the Porsche, as Tyler pulls away leaving Daijiro far behind, taking the win. The JIC Magic / Hankook Tire takes 2nd place at English Town, NJ, an overall successful weekend showcasing the power and potential of the Porsche Platform and the handling ability of the JIC Magic / CROSS Suspension Systems.
JIC Magic would like to thank our Sponsors for their contributions to our success: Hankook Tire, Torco USA, In-Style Graphics, Meguiars, APR Performance, Garrett Turbo, STRI Racing USA, M1 Fabrications, L.A. Porsche Dismantler, Spec Clutch, RC Ignition, K&W Autobody.
