Hey everyone. Kevin from the General Tire / AutoWorx Canada Drift Team here.
Man what a crazy week it has been up here in Canada, getting ready for the madness this weekend that is the Red Bull World Championships. I thought I'd share with you guys some of the crazyness that we had to go through to get the car to RedBull on time.
We had been in Relax mode since our season was done, and all our scheduled Demos were finished. Time to relax for the winter. Then we get the call, around 10pm on Wednesday night, saying what everyone was hoping for, but not prepared for... We're going to RedBull. Great news... But this is what the car looked like.
We have less than 60 hours to completely rebuild the G35. We're not going to go to Long Beach without double checking and triple checking every part on the car. Keep in mind, out of this 60 hours, everyone works 8 hour day jobs, and needs some sleep at the end of the night.
So we get started Thursday Night. JR and Jon start to tear down the motor to replace some small parts, belts, tensioners, etc.
Haig (Driver of the General Tire 180sx, also Chief Mechanic @ AutoWorx) gets started on the Subframe, which needed to be fixed and changed because of the problems we had with the Diff in Edmonton.
After Welding the Subframe, time to pop everything back in.
Because at at RedBull, we needed to fix the sponsors we had on our car. We don't run the same sponsors at every event, so the stickers come off. Also the car needs to look brand new, no drift damage... Not an easy task!
We finally managed to get together a bunch of guys, and Presto, the engine goes in.
Because our Intercooler was Smashed (but still works), we choose to FLIP it, so that the back side of it was facing out, making it LOOK new. This required some welding.
Mount up the Oil Cooler and our nice "Intercooler Protector / Tow Bar"
Thanks to the Body guys @ AutoWorx, they get some paint on the bumpers...
.
Its not Saturday at 6pm, and the car was suppose to be gone by Noon. We still need some finishing touches.... some Stickers.
Double check everything...
And our Tuner / Electrical Expert Robin plays with some stuff...
We pack the car into the Trailer for the long ride down to Long Beach.
Wake up Damnit!! You need to drive to California and take the car there!! You were suppose to leave 12 hours ago!
With all the love that the car got it we will be sure to put on one HELL of a Show.
If you've never seen the G35 in Action, here is a little clip of what our 543.3 WHEEL Horsepower Twin Turbo'd Infiniti G35 does.
