Round 1: Katsuhiro Ueo vs. Jeff Jones. Run1. Ueo leads and Jeff Jones tries to chase him down. Run 2. Jones leads and Ueo follows closely behind. Ueo Advances.
Round 2: Pat Mordaunt vs. Darren McNamara. Pat leads and Dmac gives chase and stays nicely behind him. Run 2. Dmac leads and iniates early. Pat goes wide then catches up to Dmac’s door. Dmac advances.
Round 3: Ken Gushi vs. Robbie Nishida. Gushi leads and swings it through the teardrop with Nishida following. Run 2. Nishida leads with Gushi right behind with a clean line. Great run. Ken Gushi advances.
Round 4: Eric O’Sullivan vs. Dai Yoshihara. Yoshihara leads and O’Sullivan spins out behind him. Run 2. O’Sullivan leads and Dai chases him down through the teardrop. Dai moves on to the Top 16.
Round 5: Rhys Millen vs. Ron Ewerth. Rhys leads and Ewerth spins on the first iniation point. Run 2. Ewerth leads and Rhys sticks it to him through the hairpin. Rhys advances.
Round 6: Tyler McQuarrie vs. Kenji Yamanaka. McQuarrie calls for 5 mins with a problem to his cam sensor. McQuarrie fails to make it to the line in time. Yamanaka does a bye run and will advance to the Top 16.
Round 7: Alex Pfeiffer vs. Cody Parkhouse. Pfeiffer leads and keeps a distance throughout the run with Parkhouse trying to play catch-up. Run 2. Parkhouse through the first drift goes really wide and Pfeiffer slides past as Parkhouse goes off course. Pfeiffer moves on.
Round 8: Matt Powers vs. Tanner Foust. Powers leads and Foust sticks to his door through the course. Run 2. Foust leads and creates a large gap in the entire run with Powers trying to catch up. Foust moves on.
Round 9: Ryuji Miki vs. Taka Aono. Miki leads and Taka gives chase. Miki creates a gap towards the end of the run. Run 2. Taka leads and Miki chases closely. Taka goes wide in the teardrop. Miki moves on.
Round 10: Tony Brakohiapa vs. Kyle Mohan. Tony B leads and Mohan gives a close chase sticking to his door at the last clipping point. Run 2. Mohan leads and Tony sticks close through the teardrop. Great run for both. One More Time.
Run 1 in OMT. Tony B leads and Kyle chases going a bit wide on the first turn. Run 2 in OMT. Kyle leads and Tony B goes hot and makes a big correction on the first run. Kyle moves on to the Top 16.
Round 11: Ryan Tuerck vs. Samuel Hubinette. Tuerck leads and is a little shallow through the first turn in the hairpin. Run 2. Hubinette leads and Tuerck goes in very hot and makes a huge correction. Sam moves on to the Top 16.
Round 12: Bill Sherman vs. Yasu Kondo. Bill Sherman has broke a rocker arm. Kondo does a bye run and Kondo moves on.
Round 13: Chris Forsberg vs. Calvin Wan. Forsberg leads and Calvin sticks to his door. There is contact. Chris exits the track with something broken on his car. 5 mins is called by Forsberg. Wow great work by the Forsberg team and he will make it to the line in time to start the 2nd run. More deliberation by the judges and going over a rules issue as Forsberg feels his car is not able to run. Run 2. Calvin leads Chris chases, but Calvin straightens and corrects, but Forsberg spins at the last clipping point. One More Time is called by the judges.
Run 1 in OMT. Forsberg leads and Calvin chases but goes really shallow. Calvin then passes on the inside on the last clipping point as Chris goes wide. Run 2 in OMT. Wan leads but is shallow and Chris gives chase but a small correction. Calvin Wan moves on.
Round 14. Stephan Verdier vs. Kazu Hayashida. Run 1 Verdier leads and Hayashida chases through the course. Run 2. Hayashida leads and Verdier comes in tight in the teardrop. Verdier moves on.
Round 15. Vaughn Gittin vs. Ross Petty. Vaughn leads and Petty goes hot and spins on the initial first sweeper. Run 2. Petty leads and goes wide, but Vaughn is right there on his bumper. Vaughn moves on to the top 16.
Round 16. Justin Pawlak vs. Michael Essa. Pawlak leads and has great angle as Essa gives chase. Essa spins! Run 2. Essa leads but Pawlak sticks to him like glue and finishes off the run. Pawlak advances.
**OMT re-run of Chris Forsberg vs. Calvin Wan. Forsberg leads and Wan goes hot through the first turn. Forsberg straightens out after being hit. 5 mins called by Wan. Run 2. Calvin leads Chris through the teardrop. Chris stays with him. Chris advances to the Top 16.
Re: Decision regarding tandem match-up between Chris Forsberg and Calvin Wan
Due to various external communications based on poor information from unqualified sources, Formula Drift has issued the following clarification ruling regarding the Round of 32 match-up between Chris Forsberg and Calvin Wan.
- On the first run of the head to head match-up contact was made between Chris Forsberg and Calvin Wan. Calvin Wan, who was chasing, was deemed at fault for the contact. Subsequently Chris Forsberg’s car was damaged. Specifically a lower control arm was broken.
- Chris Forsberg Racing enacted the 5 Minute Rule via their spotter; legally per the guidelines of the Formula Drift rulebook.
- The 5 Minutes expired and Chris Forsberg Racing brought the vehicle back to the line to run the second run of the head to head match-up.
- The judges’ decision was One More Time.
- Chris Forsberg Racing asked for a second 5 Minute and was denied by the Chief Steward
- The match continued and Calvin Wan was deemed the victor.
- 8 minutes past the expiration of the Head-to-Head battle Chris Forsberg Racing filed a legal protest deeming that they were unjustly refused additional time to fix their vehicle according Appendix E/”5 Minute Time Out” of the 2009 Formula DRIFT Rulebook. Chris Forsberg Racing stated that there is no provision that would NOT allow additional time if the team requests and that the Chief Steward can allow for additional time to fix the vehicle if deemed warranted.
- The protest by Chris Forsberg Racing was deemed legal and valid and that additional time should have been allowed which would have easily repaired the minor issue with the car
- The Chief Steward ruled to run the One More Time battle between Chris Forsberg and Calvin Wan.
Formula DRIFT understands that this is a rare and isolated incident and in no way sets precedent for “Re-runs”. This is an example of a team properly using the protest provision on a non-subjective call and finding error in a specific ruling by a Formula DRIFT official.

Round 1: Ueo vs. McNamara – Ueo leads and McNamara goes hot and contact is made, but both continue and finish the run. Run 2 McNamara leads and Ueo catches up in the teardrop and sticks to his bumper for the rest of the run. Ueo moves on to the Great 8.
Round 2: Ken Gushi vs. Dai Yoshihara. Ken leads and Dai catches him in the teardrop, but Ken breaks free and creates a gap to the end of the run. Run 2. Dai leads and Ken gives chase, both initiate at same time and Ken sticks to Dai’s door. Dai straightens out! Ken advances.
Round 3: Rhys Millen vs. Kenji Yamanaka. Rhys leads and Kenji has a wider line, but can’t catch up to Rhys. Run 2. Kenji leads and Rhys chases and sticks to the bumper of Kenji like glue through the entire run. Rhys advances.
Round 4: Alex Pfeiffer vs. Tanner Foust. Alex leads and Tanner chases right to Alex’s door and sticks with him through the entire run. Amazing run. Run 2. Tanner leads and Alex returns the favor by sticking to his door through the teardrop. Great tandem action! Tanner gets the win and moves on to the Great 8.
Round 5: Ryuji Miki vs. Kyle Mohan. Ryuji leads and Kyle chases both have wide lines through to the teardrop. Run 2. Kyle leads and both enter the teardrop, Kyle goes a bit wide. Ryuji Miki moves on to the Great 8.
Round 6: Samuel Hubinette vs. Yasu Kondo. Yasu leads and Sam gives chase to the much slower Corolla and sticks to his rear bumper. Run 2. Sam leads and Yasu chases and catches up at the teardrop and stays with him through the run. One More Time!
Run 1 in OMT. Yasu leads and Sam chases and sticks to the rear bumper of the Corolla. Run 2. Sam leads but Kondo goes a bit wide and never really catches Sam in the run. Sam advances
Round 7: Chris Forsberg vs. Stephan Verdier. Chris leads and Stephan chases and shadows Chris throughout the course right on his door and rear bumper. Great run! Run 2. Stephan leads and Chris catches up and returns the favor by sticking to Stephan’s door and follow to the end of the run. Stephan Verdier advances.
Round 8: Vaughn Gittin vs. Justin Pawlak. Gittin leads and JTP gives chase. JTP goes hot and spins out on the first turn. Run 2. JTP leads and goes feint drift and Gittin follows. Gittin keeps it close and goes a little wide, but its not enough and Gittin moves on.
TOP 8

Run 1 in OMT. Ueo leads and goes wide on his really early drift entry and Ken gives chase and sticks to him. Run 2. Ken leads and Ueo chases sticking to Ken’s door through the run. Close battle. Ken moves on to the Final 4.
Round 2. Rhys Millen vs. Tanner Foust. Rhys leads and Tanner chases sticking to his door from the entry through to the teardrop. Rhys pulls slightly away towards the end of the run. Run 2. Tanner leads and Rhys gives chase and shadows him through the teardrop and Tanner pulls slightly away in the same fashion as Rhys did in the previous run. Tanner Foust moves on to the Final 4.

Round 1 of Top 4: Ken Gushi vs. Tanner Foust. Battle of the Scion TCs. Ken leads and Tanner chases and stays close through the run. Run 2. Tanner leads and Ken gives chase and goes wheel to wheel with the champ through the teardrop and to the end of the run. Ken Gushi moves on to the Finals!
Round 2 of Top 4: Ryuji Miki vs. Stephan Verdier. Ryuji leads and Verdier gives chase and goes wide and off-course with 1 tire into the teardrop. Run 2. Verdier leads and Miki gives chase tapping Verdier’s bumper in the teardrop and makes a correction towards the end of the run. Verdier moves on to the Finals.
Consolation Round for 3rd Place: Tanner Foust vs. Ryuji Miki. Miki leads and Foust chases and Foust overshoots wide and goes off-course into the teardrop. Run 2. Foust leads and Miki chases him down and keeps it close. One More Time.
Round 2 in OMT. Miki leads and Foust keeps on his rear bumper through the run. Run 2. Foust leads and Miki is right on him in the first entry and keeps it on him through the run. One More Time.
2nd OMT battle. Miki leads and Tanner gives chase. Tanner goes hot and hits Miki’s side door. Both cars come to a hault. Foust leads and Miki chases down Tanner and stays on his door and ends the run.
Finals: Ken Gushi vs. Stephan Verdier. Ken leads and straightens out and car looks to be damaged and he runs off course. Verdier wins as Ken’s car will not be able to compete.
