huh...never knew that, thanks. I always heard that Pizza was American. Guess it's not.

I thought that I saw a 92'(I believe) 240 for sale with the Super HICAS system in it. said alll-wheel steering. I know the R34 GTR, V spec I/II has it. Not sure about the R33/R32.

Is the Attesa system another variable 4-wheel drive system then?

BTW The skyline will not be watered down. Many of the Japanease car manufactures are switching to a V style engine. Mostly for fuel economy but this will also allow them to sell more different cars in america. We, the automotive community, have known about these forbidon fruits (Skylines, up untill recently The EVOs and the STI's, etc.) but the general public has never heard of them. Ask anybody on the streets and they will say the Lancer is a brand new car. Well it's not. It's been out for quite a long time(Probably not much longer since Mitsu might go under by winter. sucks too because that will be before the Evo VIII MR will be out over here) By changing the car with the V style engine it will allow them to bring them over here, and appeal to new customers with the look, performance, and fuel economy. People think it's a new product, they are impressed, and the company is thought of better my the general public.
my point is. The skyline will still be a badda$$ car and will not be toned down for America. What Nissan is doing is trying to extract the most performance out of America's emissions standards (California most likely). America has some of the hardest emission standards in the world. Every new skyline will be the same performance since the car will be on a world debut( Japan's might be a bit better because of the higher octane they use)

uhhh....have fun piecing togather this thing, I kept thinking while I was writing...sorry

just let me think this over for a bit and i will come back with a better explaination sorry...

V style engines dont permit them to sell cars here, nor do V style engines give better performance or fuel economy. It simplys allows them a large number of cylenders in a confined space.

Nissan went to v6 for all there cars because they have forever, the 3 liter v6 was there big motor forever and it got put into the Z car, the skyline is getting one because they have designed this excelent new 3.5 liter and the Skyline and the Z car are now related. Long hoods dont apear to be "in" at the moment so you hear talk of the new Supra if its made being a v8 or something similar. But besides that there really isnt any other japanese cars going to the v style engines.

the RX-8 is a rotary. The Evo is an inline 4, the STI is a boxer 4. The Miata turbo is a inline 4.

The only thing i can really say is Inline 6s arent being used much at the moment, Aside from Nissan.. and we never got there inline 6s, only toyota really used them. And the only good cars they are selling now are under the lexus brand, and they are trying to be as american as posible. Sport has gone out the window in order to look cool and be luxurious.

      now for Attessa and Hicas...

Hicas is four wheel steering. It was used on both the Skyline and the 240sx. In fact the S13 shares alot of its suspension design with the skyline.

Attessa is the four wheel drive mechanism the Skyline uses. Its real wheel drive until the computer senses slip. a Variation of this is used on the Marano and the Infinti version as well as the G35 sedan, and a coupe version is being tested with the Atessa or so im told.

The GT-R used both of these systems

Super Hicas is the 4 wheel steering - from Nissan. It came in some 240's , Z32 . The R32s have a hydraulic system. The R33/R34 have an electic system. Most serious circuit people dont like it , and end up taking it off.

is the skyline that is availiable in japan still known as the GT-S? or is it just called the skyline. the regular skyline GT-S was just rear wheel drive right. so did nissan change that with the new regular skyline?

The Skyline in japan right now the G35 here is not considered a sport model skyline, Simply the base model skyline. the GT-S was not a base model skyline it was a sport model skyline, one trim below the GT-R. So yeah for all the good props the G35 gets about being a great sport coupe or sport sedan.. it aint even the sport version.

There is an all wheel drive sedan already out in both Japan and America, and they are testing a AWD Coupe.

                          concepts

I have a Japanese magazine that shows a concept of the GTR. It also has the 4500 GT and new Lancer EVO cars. The GTR front end kinda looks like the new M45 concept. The 4500Gt looks like a ferrari with a celica style rear end.

Whatever the name is, the "Skyline" has always been the luxury Nissan car. The GT-R is just a 2-door stripped down power-boosted version of that same car. Whether it's called a Skyline or not, an AWD 2-door high power G35 is what Skyline drivers are looking for.

                              As for V6 versus I6:
V configuration allows for more interior space within the same length of the car, but confines space within the engine bay due to the added width of the motor and exhaust manifolds. I6's and V6's have equal opportunity for performance given that the displacement and rotating mass is the same. V-mounting can be done on both layouts without much problem. Even though the pistons are nested into each other, the motor is still longer than a I3 (Geo Metro) because the cylinders need to be offset and cooling veins (especially on narrow angle motors) need to be incorporated.

Not that anybody cares, but I think that by that time both the EVO and WRX will have become so refined that the new Skyline will be mid-pack. Mazda has been talking about bringing back a new incarnation of the RX-7 as well with only 2 seats, 2 doors and significantly less weight than the RX-8. If that car is out anywhere close to the time of the new Skyline, then there may be another import sports car war in the forecast...

Could we go from the 90's:
Skyline vs. Supra vs. RX-7 vs. NSX vs. 3000GT vs. P1 Impreza

                              To the 2000's?:
Skyline(?) vs. Supra(?) vs. RX-7/8 vs. S2000/NSX vs. EVOIX vs. STi vs. Suzuki GS-R 4(?) vs. Hyundai Tiburon Turbo-quad (or something?)

                              -MR
