  • New to drifting

Hi people, im new to drifting so sorry for the dumb questions.

I really love drifting but i have never actually tried to drift, mainly because there are a lack of places to drift over here in england, it hasnt really kicked off yet. I have an rx7 fd and i really want to try some drifting but im afraid if i try on the roads then i might crash, what are the best ways to start drifting for someone that has never drifted before. The only time i have tried it was a few months after getting my rx and was in the wet, the car started snaking and then spun and i crashed havent tried since

    Thanks

well.. to give you an idea how i started:

First: I got a few important Mods to my car. suspension / 2way LSD to start.
                      that is just my opinion.

Second: I went to a parking lot and tried dounuts around a cone. both ways

Third: went to figure 8s with two cones and small J turns

                      Fourth: Faster straight J turns

by this time you have good idea and some control of your car

The trickiest part of learning is going to be finding a place to learn at. If you know any one with a big open lot that may help. Or else your going to need a track or something big and flat.

The FD is suposed to be a tricky car to learn with.. Excellent car, good drifter, but tricky to learn on... if its possible you may want to pick up another rwd car to learn on, a S13 or something similar if you can afford to have another sitting around. Get the basics down, then sell it and practice on the FD...

But either way the FD is a good car, for the very very basics of how to get started getting the tail out check out my drifting 101 thread, links in my signiture. I think its helped alot of guys go from "drifting looks cool but i dont know how to start" to "Hey there we go. i think i understand how this works now"

Either way you want to make sure your in a safe area with nothing to hit.

We have several members from the UK on the board hopefully they can help you out with practice areas and stuff further.

DVD's can be used as a basic reference, but you should try to locate or organize track events.

                            Mission Drifting features 7 lessons.

Drifting.com plans to ship to the UK by the end of this week.
