the Hot Rod mag artical was perfectly realistic about the fact the GTO is barely an american car. And realistic about the fact the GTO didnt exactly win the D1. But they were also opptimistic. Very good artical.

First off, excuse me? Since when CAN'T 50 grand in a Civic outrun a Corvette, anyone who watches Best Motoring, especially the Type R legend knows it easily could, in ANY way.

Personally I think that the GTO drift car is not a bad thing, how many have actually seen it drift? I saw the GTO at Formula-D in Atlanta and thought that it handled it's business pretty well. I do believe that the car itself was also an International effort to build. Whether the Formula-D is dominated by JDM imports or American Spec Japanese cars or even foreign made american cars the competition will always be in Japanese in heritage even though it is here in America, just like the GTO is American heritage jsut built by a different vision.

But CD also pointed out that the old GTOs were not that great the first time the rolled off Detriot. Only after a decade they became an ICON.

dude! i was gona start this post. he also said that most of the people that went to the D1GP came in FWD cars. WTF?!?!?!?! the parking lot was a showe in itslef with plenty of AE86's, 240's WRX's STIs Evos a few Datsuns. even a few muscle cars!
anoither thing: read the article bout the drifting school and Bob says the drifting has been around for 14 years in Japan. 14 yrs!!!! who you kidding pal, these people started in the 70's with their celicas and probably even earlier. Bob, go back and relearn your history if you jsut wanna make money of something you barely know stuff about!
yeah the first thing that came to my mind was AE86's too!!! these things get like 230 hp at most! the whole article kinda pissed me off too with its biasedness.
one more thing:
this years D1 in iriwndale:
1 240sx (KA24 powered)
2 RX'7's
1 Supra
yeah they all use them~!Last edited by yarzan; 06-07-2004, 11:29 AM.

here is what i'm sending, its only a draft now so please tell me what i said thats wrong or what i need to add.
I am offended! There are so many incorrect statments made in this article its amazing. First, your comment on how everyone that likes drifting likes the Honda Civic and cars like that community. Thats un-true because if you ask most hardcore drifters their thought on a FF Civic, Integra, etc they'd tell you that those cars are in a whole different ball park from drifting. Then, you say that $50,000 into a Civic couldnt beat a Corvette. With $50,000 you could easily swap in a crate motor, that out of the box makes more power than a 'Vette. Next, as you list cars that are commonly used for drifting you say a Supra. Did you actually do any research on what cars are "Drift Cars"? A supra is way too heavy to be used by any non-sponsored everyday drifter. Then, you say that a big-engined GTO would be better than a small engined car. Its the weight that stops that from being true, everyone of the cars used in drifting does have to be stripped down to a certain extent to have a better weight to power ratio. Thats why the GTO did not perform a drift as easily as the other cars in the event. Then you have your own ideas on other good drift cars. The Corvette is to expensive to be used by most drifters, same with the Viper and GTO. The mustang is to underpowered for its weight. The only one that is used is older (early 90's) Camaro, which is used by some everyday drifters. Finally, you say that you think a GTO could be made into a drifter with $25,000. Thats over $50,000 for the car and mods. You could just get a $2000 240sx and spend maybe $5,000 to make it a "drifter". Or you could do the same with a used miata, MR2, etc. Please next time you wrtie an article that deals with a specific community such as driftting try and get your facts checked before you publish it. For future refrence try the www.drifting.com forums, or just ask the drivers at drifting events.
i prolly did say some wrong things, i was a bit mad and thoughtless when i wrote it....Last edited by Xantos; 06-07-2004, 12:58 PM.

sounds nice to me. add a few things: most of the cars in the D1GP parking lot were FR. tell them that next time they preport on an event that they should actually go there. also tell them that drifting had been around for a little more than 14 years, try around 30. thats what id say.
im still kidna pissed about the whole thing.
... oh yeah i saw the GTO at D1 too. it looked weird drifting but you can tell Rhys is starting to get the hang of it.
