  • Turbo/super

Oh my god. I have finally saved up enough to buy a turbo for my 1.8L miata and I have just learned that turbos are the most confusing things ever. My friend has now convinced me that a supercharger is the way to go and I really couldn't care either way I am just looking for instant gratification. The only thing that I dont like about superchargers is that they don't have bov, but besides that I could care less. So my question is, will a jackson racing supercharger totally destroy my motor if I am running at 6psi?

How much do you have saved? 6pounds is fine for the miata. I'm running 11psi right now. You REALLY should go to www.miataforum.com and search the power forums

I'm running a custom turbo setup. I like either. My Turbo is cool, seriously though just cuz it has a BOV doesn't make it cool. I like blowers too. I wouldn't get the JR one though. I'd get the BR Performance MP62 kit. My friend Gary at www.trackdogracing.com make Air to Air intercoolers for them. Here's a vid of his car, he's pushing right around 12lbs at 262HP

Go with a supercharger its instant power unlike the lag with the turbos. Im using the JR sc and its great. Has really good response. They just came out with a monstercharger that puts you up to 200 horespower i dont know about the BR on though.

How much power does the BR Performance blower put out stock? and why would you get it over the jackson racing sc?

No. More boost=smaller pulley. When you push more boost, you come accross lots of variables. The blower is spinning faster, so it runs hotter. In turn, the air coming out of it is hotter = detonation. You need the fuel to accomodate it and a timing device to *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored* your timing, AND/OR a way to cool the air down I.E Air to air or water to air intercooler.

Doorifto, this is one reason why I like a turbo i guess. I just play with my Profec and ECU, and BAM more or less boost. No pulleys.

                          Pho,

Go here http://brpforum.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x or Check Miata.net classifieds, lots of people are upgrading to the MP62 and are selling all their M45 stuff. You should be able to find one cheap. Or call Brandt at BR Performance. I know my buddy just got the smaller pulley from him a few weeks ago. Here it is.

turbo ain't really that confusing depending on what you're talking about (installing or how it works). if you willing to take 30 min. out of your schedule you can read it on howstuffworks.com . it's very informative. to me, turbo isn't very hard to understand. i'll break it down for you while i still can. when the exhuast air goes out from the exhaust manifold, this is what makes the turbo spin (exhuast air). then the air goes to the intercooler (air exchanger) for cooling. the routs all the way tothe intake manifold and tha'ts where it "forces" air into the combustion room. is extra pressure an issue? don't worry this is where the BOV comes it. it release excess pressure from the turbo. also smaller turbo spools up at lower rpm than bigger turbos. bigger turbos take a while for the pressure to kick in (aka turbo lag).
again if i didn't cover some questions of yours you can try howstuffworks.com. it'll cover about "knock" and running rich fuel.
                            so that's my summary.
