  • has anyone ever rented a parking lot to drift/autocross on?

im just wondering, has anyone ever rented out a big parking lot somewhere to drift/autocross on?

maybe some huge mall lot or something along those lines.. doesnt even have to be that large.. what kind of issues would be involved in setting something up like this, you'd of course have to speak with the owner, then what about damage to the surface? does it get damaged? can the streaks be removed? insurance? anything else?

Nowadays its difficult to do that...they won't even let us drift in the Irwindale Speedway parking lot anymore because of the polls. To rent a space you need liability insurance, money for a deposit, an established name, references (previous rentals). Also, its difficult because some cities won't allow it because of complaints from the residents. At Irwindale we can't start until after I think 8am because of the noise. You also need at least one EMT on site (CA Speedway requires 2) and a fire marshal. The streaks eventually wash out. Drifting/Autoxing leaves a lot of tire dust and rubber, so some places require you to pay for a sweeper to clean your junk up. Its a big hassle.

find like 3 or 4 parking lots that fit your needs that are within 5-10 minutes of eachother and use one, then if and when the cops come and break it up.... have everyone drive to the next parking lot (it helps if they are in bordering towns or states if you have the luxury of livin near a state border) and keep repeating this cycle, moving from lot to lot.... it usually takes the cops about an hour or more to break up anything well-organized, also learn when the cops do their shift changes... when they are on shift change you wont get busted up cuz there are no cops out and the ones that are out are on their way back to the precinct/barracks/station and want to go home to a nice cold beer and sex from their wifeys... they wont bother u.... and typically a shift change takes about an hour or more...

hope this helps.... its what the local street scene around where i live runs... sometimes it runs without a hitch and sometimes you get the permanent boot for the night from the cops... if you have enough people and the people arent acting like assholes, the cops wont arrest anyone. unless you are drifting while the cops are pulling up or in front of them you shouldn't get a ticket..... just be courteous and suck some balls.... it also helps ot have spotters with walkie talkies (nextels) down the road from where u are to alert everyone when the Pigs are coming, or if one is about to drive by....

its like insurance in the way that you put like a deposit down on the lot so that the place you're renting it from has some money so that if there are damages to the property, they can use it to fix them, but if you want more info on that, talk to alex @ dailydrifter.com

I was also wondering this kinda, around here there's no were to practice at least on the Virginia side... TN side I haven't checked yet, we were going to talk to a local school and see if we could use their parking lot (not many poles), if ya know somone who owns a personal business with a fairly large parking lot I would think that would be easier than like kmart or wal mart...

                              Where you located at.

I organize drift events on a lot in Houston. Insurance is hella expansive and we don't really give out much info about it because it's really hard to get.
