Ken Gushi Mustang: Like or Not?

hey 240drftr, ummm well ken gushi seems to be trying to do this for a living, so in a sense it is all about the money. And I forgot who exactly it was but i know one or more japanese drivers said they'd love to see mustangs, camaros, and vipers and other american cars drifting. So the japanese do want something new.

Um that was team orange on the TLC special, I guess they probably would say that considering one of, if not their biggest sponsor is APC(american products company)... just informing you. Also I dont "hate" american cars so to say...I just think that when you see some little rich boy come out in his "mopar" viper and drifting it(not so good I should say) it kinda gets anoying. Drifting is supposed to be done with every day cars, a viper is not one. Just thought I would add my 2 cents. I am not trying to start a flamming war so don't get mad at me. i totally agree with you. although i do think sam did a good job drifting whether i like him, and his car. i give him that. i do believe that car gave him an advantage, but formula D didnt have a regulation on cars (which i hope they fixed, and i think they did) he was simply bending the rules a little. thats typical in USA society. americans always want to win. now personally i would never do that but im not sam. i do recall sam in one of the formula D rounds cutting somebody off (i think it was gushi i dont remember ) and basically making it a grip race because he didnt give his opponent any room to drift. i think thats stupid if its true. your supposed to beat the opponent fair and sqaure. simply out drifting him, not cutting him off and being cheap, but thats americans for you. anyways i give sam credit for his abilities.
also...as for millen (mr gto) i have read and seen that he has his tranny custom so when he drifts he leaves it in 3rd gear. he never has to upshift or downshift during drifts. i think thats plain out cheap, and shows his lack of abilities. i think sam is better than that even if he is pushing an @$$ load of hp. but once again, sometimes...thats the american way of doing things well w/e im not ragging on US i love this country....GOD BLESS THE USA

Well whoever told you that is highly uninformed. The Japanese love American cars. Absolutely love em, matter of fact, they love just about everything American just like we love everything Japanese because, you might have guessed it, its different. You always want what you readily cannot have. Take the 240 for example. We get basically the 180SX right here in America but everyone wants a real one from Japan, why? Cause they cannot have it. You could make one for half the cost to import one in, RHD and all, but everyone wants to buy one or says they are gonna get one. Waste of money. But you all are so willing to go out there and get one because its Japanese.

If Drifting were invented in America you all would be jabbering about how Japanese cars shouldn't be in Drifting. Thats just the way it goes. American cars can do the same things that Japanese cars can, they just go about it different because...... guess why?....this is an easy one.... they are American. So before any of you diss on the American cars maybe you ought to try one. Not to bag on you underage guys but half of you aren't even old enough to drive either one of em let alone make any decisions on the matter and the other 1/4 of you have never owned one. I've owned Mustangs that I enjoyed more than my FD.

As I have stated before, a TRUE speed and Automobile enthusiast is like a whore who sleeps around, they will do any car as long as it's fast and performs. There is no us and them. If you think that way then you are not a true enthusiast because you are close minded and never will get to fully enjoy cars. Sucks to be you.

I personaly dont mind vipers and GTOs in the D1 and formula D and such events. If someone gave me a GTO or Mustang to drift, i would take it. But to me, it seems like hp is becoming more important then suspension. My friend Al sort of is thinking the same way. He has an FD twin turbo, and although its fast, he doesn't care. Suspension is his main concern. And its kind of rubbing off on me.


If i ever do get a lexus, i will turbocharge it. But its not going to be the first thing i do. Im going to pay JIC, Do-luck, hks, tein a visit. and if it drifts good after that stuff, then ill think about
a turbo,but it wont be high priority.

There is somthing else i am trying to say, but im not sure what. So if i think of it i will say it later tonight or tomorrow after noon.

First off, Congrats to Ken. Good choice going with the factory Sponsor. Thats the big leagues right there. You definately have a future ahead of you. Hope you have alot of fun!!

Now this is gonna get ugly. Cant believe some of this stuff I'm reading. Yes the Viper has a lot of power but this sport is not all about power. Its about agility and tuning. When 200hp cars beat out 400+hp cars this should be very clear to you. The Viper is heavy, and the wheelbase is large. These are disadvantages. Yes the Viper is modified for racing from the factory. But guess what, every other car that was competing with the Viper was also modified for racing. Some of them were modified even more than the Viper! The only difference is that one was OEM and the others modified aftermarket. Dodge went with the Viper CTC is because it made the most sense at the time. They wanted to expose their name in this new Sport. I do not think they intended for "rich boys" to go out and buy Vipers to drift. They intended to win and expose their name. I'm sure Dodge Execs did not understand the ties between street cars and drifting when they made this choice. This is a new sport to America. All they knew was that they needed to provide the best car possible for their driver. Thats it. You could say the same about any Japan Sponsor, they would all provide the best possible parts or cars. And technically the Viper that Dodge provided was the best they could sponsor. Yes it fit in the rules of Formula D. I agree it was somewhat wrong to go with the Viper CTC but when it comes down to it, it was Formula D's fault for not having the right rules. I understand how people get mad about that car since its not a street car, it gets minus points from me too. But that alone dosnt make it unfair when compared to the other cars! The CTC was right in their league.

Rhys is not running a "special tranny" modified so that he does not have to shift LMAO!! He is running a T56, the standard Tremec 6 speed. It has an aftermarket clutch. Sam in the Viper is probably using a T56 too. I wouldnt be supprised if Ken's Mustang uses a T56 too. When the course is a bunch of long sweepers and the speeds are high then you dont need to shift as much as a technical short course with lower speeds. This applies to everyone.

I dont see what Drifting and Nascar have in common. I think associating the domestic cars with Nascar is a stereotype. Nascar is about roadracing and Drifting is about ... drifting. Nothing in common. Nascar fans wouldnt know anything about drifting, and drifting fans appear to know nothing about Nascar. Regardless of who you are, where you come from, or what motorsport you like, anyone can learn new things about other sports. I dont know what the problem is. If they like it, then they'll watch it. So what. This negative bias attitude towards Nascar really makes me wonder if any of you have any real idea of the tech involved with Nascar. I dont find Nascar races very exciting either, but I sure give those guys respect. They really know their stuff.

And just a FYI, Sam is not American. So I dunno how his driving reflects on America ...

I understand what ur saying, I guess what i am trying to say is i just like the smaller cars; i like the underdogs. Cars with 160 hp (last D1 i believe) making it in to the top 16 or better. And It just seems to happen less and less. But I understand that its also because more and more compitiion is coming in from japan and america.

What, did you get into drifting because it was anti-mainstream in the states? Thought you were pioneering something new to the rest of the nation, thinking you knew about something no-one else did? GET OVER IT! If you cant love the sport when it's mainstream then you never loved it, you're just coming to realize that it isn't about you.


The 05 mustang is a domestic. You can think it's the heart and soul of american sports, or think it's Ford ideology with cheap econoline parts and a soulless production process... but heres what I think. It's a solid package, slightly bulbous, but for the price there's none better. You can drift happy knowing if you wreck the exterior can afford replacements on the short stack. This isn't some art piece. It's a solid-chunky chassis, best of the worst (McPhearson) suspension, the world's most grunt engines, and all without worrying about overseas costs, out-of-production parts, and all the other crap you run into when working with import tuning.

Ford Racing is also bringing back it's aftermarket sold through the Dealerships: body, headers, transmission, pulleys, exhaust, camber adjusters, struts, brakes, swaybars, seats, harnesses, crap, every part you can think of and more all through every dealership's Ford Racing department.

Funny thing is, that all those cars that you mentioned, I've driven and know people that drive them. I am spanish, not white. I dont know were you of all people get off on correcting spelling when most of the posts that I see belong to you have a ton of mispellings. My favorite car is the Mustang. Like I said, I'm spanish and from NJ, just because I drove a mustang, camaro, or anyother American car, that automatically makes me a redneck? Just stop talking about how much you hate the car and how stupid Ken is, and just go build your own D1 spec drift car, race it against him. If you beat him, I'll salute you, but If you lose or don't even decide to do it, shut up, Ok? Thnx for your attention.
