It was a very unfortunate day. My practice time ended only after 5-6 laps around the course.
I was testing out the new Falken Azenis RT-615 in the rear for the first time. It seemed that the tires felt better and better as it heats up. I was running relatively lower pressure than the ST115s.
I was on my 3rd lap on those RT-615s and they started to feel better and better. So I entered turn 1 the big right hand sweeper a little faster but the traction was actually lower than I anticipated. I went wide, messing up the line into the left hand switch back and I spun. Then it happened. I had no where to go.
Hiro was a good sport even though his car had more damage than the Discount Tire S13. Hiro and I had some histories as early as the beginning of 2004 when he spun and I hit him during a tandem practice at California Speedway with NASA US Drift. Now we are even Hiro! No more! :P
The crash looks a lot worse than the actual damage done on the Discount Tire S13. It seems the frame rails are still straight. Kevin Wells from LS Automotive has confidence that we can get it done in 4 days before the car is loaded on the Falken truck to go to Formula D round 2 in Atlanta. See you all there!
I just got back from Houston.
It really sucked to haul back a junked car
for 30 hours straight. . . .
My sincere apologies to Hubert for cutting his
practice time short (very short), and busting
his competition car. Sorry Hubert, it was completely
my bad.
Good luck to Kevin with the repair! Hope to see
you guys soon in Atlanta !!!
