yea but if you take the best japaneese car and put it beside best german car i think the german car might out run it.
if you take a skyline r 34 and put it to a porsche twin turbo, its about the same price and i would have my money on the porsche. just what i think.

    i duno tho.......

Aftermarket excluded: When I think about Germany, I think powerful porkers. When I think Japan, I think many times under-powered light-weight cars. Not that they dont switch every once in a while. When I was trying to compare them I was trying to think of the best of both markets. I chose R34 (japanese powerful but weighty normally characteristic of DTM) and porsche (light, powerful, great handling characteristic of JDM) making it quite difficult to choose. I think in a performance show-off the porsche would run all over the r34 but then a silvia would prob put it down on many non porsches.

I just decided to pick DTM. Not so much because they are better than JDM cars, but because they consistently put out powerful, RWD, weighty but well handling autos. Heritage is a big part of DTM market. I dont need the luxo so much but they make up for anything that it costs them. JDM manufacturers are making most of their decisions based on dollar amounts right now and we are getting FF, non-rb powered, scions.

i think ur right about everything u stated. M3 vs. NSX my opinion m3 would out run it and out handle it.

the thing is that you can make japanese cars faster a lot easier then any german car.

so true. speaking of scion. does any one think a "youth brand" would do good with a rwd car? you know, for the new drift fans and such out there, something lightweight, 2500 lbs or something rear wheel drive, NA, they could compaign one at the d1 and stuff..

                Japan

im gunna definetly say japan is better than germany unless you are goin for super swank comfort, but performance wise theres so many like 600+hp supras and skylines and tri-rotor rx7s i havent seen ne vws or bimmers put up that much hp lately and get sideways anywhere, or even look half as good. so yea def jdm over dtm

The closest comparison i can think of is the BMW M5 vs The Toyota Aristo or one of the JZX bros.( both high powered luxo 4 drs)

Toyota need to bring back the FR AE line of cars, no more FF AE's!!
and more high powered 4dr. luxo drift cars also

well, you can't really compare DTM to JDM because DTM stands for Deustchland Touringwagen Meisterchaft, I know my spelling sucks, but it stands for German Touring Car Championship. It's a racing league like Indy, NASCAR, or IHRA. Okay, now that is done I would have to choose the European cars. Not just because I own two, but because I just like the excellent handling and qaulity. Not that some Japanese cars don't have qaulity because they do. Not all European cars are heavy. You people are thinking about Mercedes or Jaguar. A lot of BMWs are heavy, but there are lighter cars produced by them. While on that subject. M3 is not a tuning company. It's a car. First built in the late 80s. It was built for racing. The only reason there were any built for the road is because it was required for them to be able to use the cars in the racing league. It is also the winningest touring car in it's either BMW history or just history period. i can't remember. The M in M1, M3, M5, or M6 stands for Motorsport. It's a division of BMW that builds faster, better handling cars. It's like Mugen or TRD. Also, in the European car market there are the Ferraris, McLaren F1s(powered by a BMW engine btw), Koenigsegg, and many other incredibly fast supercars. That is also another reason why I choose Euro. over Jap. This post was way too long. Oh, and don't quote me on some of this stuff, cuz I'm not 100% sure if it is correct but I think it is.

Edit: One last thing. There are actually quite a few Bimmers with 600+hp around. They're just a little harder to find. Also, Bimmers are great cars for drifting. Most people don't drift them because most of them are more heavily into road racing, but there are a few guys who drift them.

what are you talking about.? there are bimmers over 600 hp and bimmers are naturaly aspired which means no turbo and it has like 300 something hp and if you put a turbo on that and more mods it can go over 600 hp.
Same with porches they are naturally aspired to.

The closesd comparison i could think of is M3 csl vs. Nsx

all good points with the m3 and the bmw motors for the supercars and they r all good but not everyone can afford to through that much money down for one, and how much is it gunna cost to get a bmw up to that 600+ range, just remember how much supras respond to bpu upgrades, and ive seen tri-rotors for a lil under 20g pricey but def worth it, 93 rx7 in pretty fricken awsome shape for like 13g+with install 23g for the tri-rotor 36g i pretty sure will smoke ne thing for that price and a lot more, and out handle it to, nothing against ne of the super euro tuners id kill for an E46 m3

Those Skylines and Supras are modified. The three rotor rx-7 is also not a stock car. BMWs usally have a good ammount of hoursepower stock are I've seen people drift them well. Vws (Like the R32 and the GTI) are good autocross cars.

Take the 2001 BMW E46 M3 GTR for example

                            Power
                            331.1 kw / 444 bhp @ 7500 rpm

                            Torque
                            480 nm / 354.0 ft lbs @ 5500 rpm

                            Configuration
                            V8

                            Curb Weight
                            1120 kg / 2469 lbs

                            Valvetrain
                            DOHC 4 Valves per Cyl

IMO, having owned a Japanese and German car, both countries make great automobiles .
