Drifting with a Stock Rx-7? what do i need

Hello if some ppl can answer my questions i would be very greatful.. ok im going to buy an rx-7 (FD3S) and i want to drift with it.. i saw something called the drift bible and it says something about an L.S.D which i dont get to much like 2 way and 1.5 way or something i mean i will be driving my car normally on the streets but when i go out and go into drifting mode i want to know what parts and such i need or can i just drift stock

I was thinking of going to the junk yard and getting used tries for the back so i dont waste my good ones

heres my advice rotaries can be a pain in the a $ $ if you dont know crap about them i would advise a hachiroku( corolla) or a 240sx but back to the point i suggest going to an event and driving there it sounds like you have never drifted before so if you do it on the streets it could end up very badly always practice at the track where its a safe environment but the FD3S come with a stock viscous LSD i believe correct me if im wrong anyone.. but all i can say is go to the track talk to people about there set ups and see what they say before diving into your car

ok whell i live in Davie florida and no i never really drifted befor with a RWD cuz i have a dodge neon 2005 a POS cuz its ff and its auto but i do pull the ebrake to try to drift even tho its not the same.. but an rx-7 if my fav car and when i get it i mean i wont do anything stuipd on the street only and only in an open area where no ones around i screw around cuz i dont wanna hurt anyone or the car.. or get a ticket.. so i wish i couldnt find some where to really go and practice

Oh god. You're going to learn drifting in an RX-7?! Please no 1) It's a gorgeous car and you're gonna eff it up, 2) It's gonna be expensive to fix anything on that car 3) You're gonna eff it up

Start with something cheap like a 240 or Corolla.

It's definitely not good for you to start drifting out with a fresh Rx-7. Though they are powerful and nice, wankel felix comes at a price doesnt he. To an unskilled mechanic/driver, these cars may be costy. You can buy it at your won risk.

get a n/a Fc if u want an rx-7 to learn how to drift in, cheap, reliable, if the motor goes, it doesn't cost much to get a new one. Hell better yet get the FD and ill trade u my FC.

coming from a former fd3s owner (rip) i would advise against drifting your fd unless you have hookups or are a rich b!tch haha not gonna lie. itll be fun untill you start breaking things and have to replace them and find out how much stuff costs.

but if your dead set on it, get some strut tower bars they really help stiffen up the body. get a 1.5 way lsd(kaaz is really nice), and some coilovers and youll be set. dont even need a bucket seat, get a harness for your stock seats and youll be set. good luck dont die or crash, but again dont be afraid to crash and break things man. later

If you are dead-set on drifting a FD3S, you can definitely do it in stock form. Trust me, I've been there and Taka Aono (Taka-san) has also proven it to me.

The FD is more than suitable stock than most other RWD applications. The first upgrades you do should be stiffening up the suspension and upgrading the cooling system. As Wayne already stated, purchase STB's and upgrade the shocks/springs, preferably with a sturdy coilover system. An upgraded shock/spring combo works well, too.

Next, get a big, beefy full-aluminum radiator. You should actually be already contemplating this, if you weren't already. Get an aftermarket water temp gauge, the stock one isn't very trustworthy. Get an upgraded AST, either aluminum or billet steel, anything to replace the stock plastic piece.

Depending on your size, you may want to get a bucket seat. I'm 6'2", and the FD was made for the Japanese market, which is generally 4' midget". If you're taller than 5'10", think about a Sparco or Bride. Avoid the no-names, they are usually over-padded, which is what you should avoid. If you get a Touring model with sunroof, you should definitely look into a bucket seat. The sunroof takes away precious head room.

This should be a good starting point for you. Also, there is no need to want more power at this point. The FD has PLENTY of power stock. Increasing the power output shouldn't be a top priority. Then again, it's your money. Also, I hope you're loaded. Most, if not all, FD parts ARE EXPENSIVE! Struggling college students need not apply. Good luck, and prepare to see most of your money disappear faster than an INS raid.

Well i started out w/ a rx7 (FD3S) and it is a lot harder to learn. It might take you longer to learn how to drift than you would starting out w/ a 240sx. But it is possible. It took me 2 events to get used to the quick snap over. When you first start youll prolly understeer a lot or oversteer. But im pretty sure its going to be understeer since thats what the FD likes to do. Suspension wise its fine as long as everything is in good shape shocks swaybar mounts etc.. As for LSD all FDs come w/ LSD every model comes w/ a torsen LSD. Im going to swap out my LSD w/ a 87 T2 clutch type because its a lot stronger.

if your a poor collage student, no car under $10000 can beat the FC3S tii... think bout it 200Hp stock, 4 piston calipers stock, great stock suspenssion, great handling...

and please dont start drifting with the FD, please start with a beater! not a FD.... if you can afford a FD you can afford a beater!

the learning curve is a lot higher in the fd as the car is a highly balanced true sports car. the rx7 is a lot less forgiving than something like the 240sx and ae86.
