  • Hey, New Guy in Town.

Hey everyone, I'm obviously new. I'm starting to look into drifting for myself. So I browsed the internet, and from what it looks like, you guys really know what you are talking about and seem like you'd really be a lot of help. I'm hoping you guys with further my knowledge on drifting so maybe one day I can turn into those grumpy mods that get mad at n00bs and tell them to stop wasting threats. But in order do drift, I obviously need a car that would fit the case. So I've looked on AutoTrader and what not, I've "searched the forums", and it really hasn't fit my question. So I was hoping you'd help me.
=> Do you have any suggestions on a car maybe between 4K-5K that would be alright?
=> What are suggestions on putting what into that specific car for drifting?

    Thanks.

(P.S.- All of you that are doing this => or or right now reading this, I apologize 100%, because I respect you 100% as well.)

    Thanks again

the most popular drift car and probably the best to learn in is the 240sx
they can easily be found between 2 and 4k
if you want to.search for a less costly one and use the rest to do something like an sr20det swap.
Use autotrader.com, ebay, and classifieds, to find one close to you.

if you want something really cheap there are always mid '80s (usually '84-'87) toyota's that usually don't have lsd, but are cheap and good first time drifter-beaters.

these are some cheap drift cars(Tons to search for all you need is fr drivetrain)
    late '80's mustangs
    mid '80's corollas
    celicas
    supras
240sx (any will do. between about '89 and '94 are cheapest)
mid '80's 200sx (they are cheap, fr's, but ive seen people drifting them so it does work. a little hard to find tho)
180sx (harder to find, but still cheap)
300zx (any year again. they get expensive around '95 and higher)
most old zx (240, 260, 280. they are all really kinda cheap.)
mid '80's t-birds (they are big, but cheap. get the e.f.i. turbo cpe and they have the power to move them. I've drifted in one of these, and it is possible)

i don't know much. these are just a bunch of cheap rwd cars, that would be definelty less than 4k. (note: i like not to spend all the money i have, in case of problems, or wanted mods)

if you need anymore help pm and ill see if i could possibly help

We get mad when new guys ask the same questions. Really! Most new B question have been answered a hundred times. But don't worry, I'm not hating on you, yet. The search button is your buddy. You'll find when you search, that the 240SX is just right for you. I read over this site for about 4 months before I asked a question. If you search and then can't find your answer, then ask. We'll be happy to help.

I don't think you searched enough...read our faqs. We have a full list of cars with price ranges as well. Goodluck.

i'd say a 240sx with a Sr20det or Ca18det, basically just do that and practice, but if you really want to upgrade stuff work on the suspension. just do simple intake and exhaust and cooling upgrades. you could keep the stock engine but really you should just practice.

probably a s13 but now everybody and thier mother has one so you could get something like a fb wich wouldnt be too much money, its rwd and its pretty cool and unique.

then use the rest of your money for track time, gas money, coilovers, and for maintenece/repairs.

                maybe a koyo rad. too

I think ART covered most of the basics for car searching and what to get. The 240sx is a tried and true drifter, and it does seem every and their mother either has one or wants one(same with the corolla). It's common...but that's not bad, unless your goals is to be unique. For starting out, I think it's nice to have something that will allow you to get into the swing of things, just noticed the pun, pretty easily. You can save the weird projects for a later date, maybe your second/third drift car. Learn now, get crazy later, lol.

Now, don't be too worried about getting a 240sx or old corolla. You don't need one to drift. Anything that's rwd will do. Drifting still comes down to technique and the driver's ability. The car only limits you by the laws of physics and the physical aspects of the car governing what it can and can not do(or perhaps how well or easy you can do it): weight, balance, power, syspension type/geometry/stiffness, transmission type, etc. A lot of these aspects can be modified to achieve desired results.

You can drift just about anything.

However, the point in getting a 240 or a Corolla isn't the inherent driftability of the car, it's the plentiful parts and large aftermarket support.
