Looking for help in learning more about cars before i start to ask my drift questions.
can someone help guide me to a source where i can first learn the mechanics of a car..i am not all to car savy but i would like to expand my knowledge in this field. Any help and any links would be most appreciated. atm i am looking to get and all wheel drive car. And i am not quite rich enough atm to afford books to learn about this stuff and dont have to much time to get to go to the book store..but i would like to read more at night. Again any help would be much appreciated, or links to other forums where i can ask mechanical questions.

I am also looking for custom parts...
IE Pedals, dash guages...seats and other junk.

Also where would be a good place to start ? I was thinking work my way from the bottom of the car to the top.

The Drift questions on my mind so far is for a lan evo...they are all wheel drive... and i was reading the "STI Drift thread" but the questions i guess focuses on the whole fact can an AWD drift..easly...(after reading the thread at the top of the page that says all wheel drive drift ..still confused i need some images lol")

well, technically AWD cars cannot drift. the so-called sliding sideways that u see AWD cars do is actually power sliding but close enough. What i've seen lately is people buying AWD cars and adjusting the differentials to only the rear makin them RWD. Drifting is when you let your rear tires break traction and the tail starts sliding sort of an uncontrolled sliding but thats where the counter-steering comes in. your basically turning the steering wheel the opposite direction ur going.

Anyways do u at least have a car? drive stick? auto? whatever... if you DO have a car the best thing for you to do is probably explore around your car. eg: if u drive a stick learn how the functions in the tranning work that enables ur car to shift and etc. this mite help http://www.10w40.com/individual/100186.asp
also, wat i did was since i live in so-cal and pierce college is right across, i took an auto mechanics class and it really helped. a lot of the people there have worked with both JDM motors and USDM. they really help you starting from the basics and working your way up. Workshops do help.

If you dont have a car the only thing i can say is books but since u dont have $$ for that i'm out of ideas.

from what i've seen so far is that the more your around mechanics and messing around with different cars is probably the best way to learn. you can even try searchin for free online "how cars work" articles and such. anyways good luck!

howstuffworks.com has a few good bits on how cars work. Hang around some jap car forums if you want to learn a lot. Hang around the technical section.

how can you even think about buying an evo (or pretty much any awd car) when you cant afford a book about auto mechanics. but yeah, howstuffworks.com or an autoshop class are your best bet. and keep an open mind, theres always somthing more to learn, no matter who you are.
