Yes I know they're a little heavy but don't worry, It's not my daily driver so it's going to be gutted.







Currenty, I'm in the middle of changing the timing belt, valve cover gaskets, cam seals, crank seal, and a simple tune up.

it's an 87 turbo 5-speed with the targa top.

plans? keep it 7M-GTE powered but with a new turbo/ic setup. pretty basic plans really, except for the common drift specs and a lot of weight loss.

i'm soon going to buy a set of wheels and tires but i'm not sure what size to get... any help?

dont waste money on new rims yet,but invest in a good suspension set up and stiffen up that chasis. stick with ur stock rims for now and grab some tires of your choice.

I was told that buying a really crappy set of tires/rims for the rear is a good way to start drifting, so I wanted to find a good size to start. Should I do that or get new suspension right away?

lol, Take some advice from me. I've got a Rare 87 MK3 Turbo Hard Top. Focus on keeping the car stock for now. Practice, Practice, Practice, Sway bars, a Good shock and spring set up. Is a great place to start. Get use to the Supra, they tend to spinout alot.

Your current rims and tires are fine a good tire pressure is all you need.

Make sure the car is in great shape. Your already on the right path. Tune-up, suspension, and cooling for now. Allways keep the oil up to level. Check oils weekly. MK3's are old cars.

Upgrade as you go. Keep in mind Supras arent cheap if you don't take care of them.

also you might want to consider switching to a metal headgasket as those tend to go out in the 7m's. is yours a sport package? as in does it come with the TEMS buttons (sport and normal) next to your right elbow? if it is then you have an lsd, otherwise you might want to look into getting one. learning on a stock lsd will save you money if you decide that drifting isnt what you want. also cheap wheels and tires for drifting can be found at the junk yard.

emissions how is your supra doing? have you done any weight reduction on it?

yes it does have TEMS and the sport package

I bought it over the summer after it had been sitting in a garage for 5 years and it passed inspection/emissions easily. I don't have a BHG...yet.

As for the weight loss, I haven't done anything yet. After it gets a good tune-up and running like new, I'll start modding more.

Things I'm going to do;

~Most of the interior removed including the passenger seat
~Suspension
~Wheels

And I'm going to look into doing something with the rear hatch, maybe changing it to a replica of the famous "lamarossa" hatch because it's so much lighter.

That's pretty much it for a while, atleast until I'm out of college.

let's not make this another stupid thread about how 240's are the best drift car... because it's not the best drift car and most of the people who drift did not start on a 240

anyway, any supra owners here want to give me some tips on suspension? what's a great strut/spring combination?

I see H&R's or Eibachs with illumina II's a lot, but people keep saying they have problems with the II's.

heres a cool secret.

Look at newer (93+) lincoln town cars and crown victorias for wheels
they have some nice MESH wheels with a cool lip that can usually be bought for cheap. i don't know if they are 15" or 16" but the ones i saw looked like 16"

also, mustang GT wheels. you can get 99+ GT wheels for around $150-200 with TIRES and they are 17" and bolt right on.

Lets all get a 240 drift car and be exactly the same! That is completely idiotic, my supra makes more horsepower stock than your 240 with a sr20 swap! Anyways, you might as well think about the mhg now because its just a matter of time. Think about it this way, do it now so you don't have to get the head machined or do it later when you will have to spend boat loads of money getting it machined. You could just go with an OEM gasket because i feel the MAIN reason it blows is due to the headbolts not the headgasket. Get ARP headstuds and bolts and she should hold up real well.

Its nice to see more people getting into the mk3. I just bought one and I love it. I plan on running bilstien dampeners and hypercoil springs. Just remember power < suspension. btw dont hate on the supra just because its different, not everyone likes to be EXACTLY the same.
