  • Hello Drifting.com!!!

I'd like to start off by introducing myself!!! I think that's the best way to get started...

My name is Alex, I'm from Vegas... lived here almost my whole life...

I've been into drifting for about 5 years now & i've been an avid reader of drifting.com for about 2 years... but I figured it was about time to sign up & start contributing!!

I'm definitely a beginner when it comes to getting out & drifting... I've owned a couple 240's and got them sideways a few times but I was always afraid of wrecking or breaking something, cuz they were my daily-driver & I was broke!! haha

I just got a job working along side Mr. Donald Trump out here in Vegas on one of his newest projects & the pay is good... so I'm finally going to be able to fund a car strictly for drift!! I've read A LOT of these "beginners" threads, and used the "search" button... but does anyone have any tips on getting a good beginner car here in Vegas or SoCal?? probably another 240, or an 86... like everyone else... but i do like 510's, old 3 series bmw's, & classic nissans & toyota's...

Any advice will help!! & Thanks in advance!!

Auto Trader is always a good place to start looking for a car. eBay might be worth a shot as well, thats how I found my Z28.

There's also a shop here in Riverside, CA that deals specifically in customized imports, primarily 240's. They had an AE-86 sitting around last I looked as well as some random Hondas, Acuras and Mazdas. I've never dealt with them, so I can't tell you how their service is or anything.

Well, the value of these old JDM beauties has gone way up in revent years. A POS beat to hell 240 will go for 3k in So. Cal these days. But deals can still be had, just keep your eyes open and check things like craiglist from time to time.
I don't recommend using a true classic (I.E. 510, TE27 corolla, ect.) as a drift car. Not only is it a crime to wreck these old cars, getting parts (especially performance parts) is slim to damn near impossible. Remember, your not limited to JDM, there's also euro and USDM as well. I prefer japanese cars myself but it's what you want and what you can find.

Good luck and drive safely .

          hey thanks for the advice!!

I have been keeping my eye out for cars around town and I did spot two cars yesterday that might be good, what are your opinions on:

          a 280z or a fox body mustang??

I know the Z has been sitting for a while so I'm not sure what kind of condition its in, but the mustang runs & is in good condition.

i'm not familar with the L28 motor or ford motors... are these even good platforms to start with?? I am a little more familar with the traditional nissan swaps (sr & ka) & i have seen these z's with crazy RB & LS1 swaps too!!
