  • Racing Seats - A mod that I really haven't seen covered

A racing seat. This is a very valuable mod, now you don't have to go all out on this and get the best. I am going to be running an APC seat in my car, yes APC. It cost me $100 used and it holds me pretty well. It is heavy and is lacking some lower back support but I am going to be taking off the sliders (I am to tall with them on there) and if I really wanted to I could get some more padding put in that area. My car had stock leather seats and I would of flew all around and wouldn't of been able to control my car at all, those things are so slippery. Remember used parts are your best friend.

I've seen the APC seats before and they didn't look that bad. I wonder how they'll be after a few months of being beaten on. You'll have to tell us.

Why not TenzoR? DTM specifically. It's not reclinable. it's just a straight bucket. Got it for 140 new. Last december Tenzo was having a blow out or something all the retailer was selling it for 150 average. I bought a TenzoR steering wheel almost at the same time. 90 bucks. pretty good deal for some new accessories.

I also saw a bunch on ebay for like $200 for 2 seats, looked like APC(I think) they came in like black, blue, and red. I would go with black. just my newb 2 cents.

um...we'll I got Momo Acropolis Evo Racing Seat, theres no moving in there and super light too. Expensive though... I say other than seats I would get a harness, the 240 seats are nice enough you can even press in the sides if it isn't all worn out. Also I believe the GT-S seats are heavy but theyre super adjustable. But yea a 4 or 5 point harness would keep you from moving, and you already have holes to bolt them to if you remove the old seat belts.

I wouldn't trust my safety to a company like APC.

A true racing seat will save you weight and keep you in place but cost you money - sometimes BIG money...

An alternative to racing seats is to get seats from another sportier car (Nissan: Z, Honda: Prelude or CRX Si, Mazda: RX-7, Toyota: Supra/Celica Supra) and swap them in, and if that isn't enough lateral support, you can take off the cover, get yourself some foam from Jo-Ann fabrics and layer it on to the bolsters and put the cover back on. Overstuffed bolsters is an old-school way of making a supportive seat for cheap or free and you still retain all the safety of a street-driveable seat.

For race applications, OMP, Bride, Kirkey and Cobra (as well as other manufacturers) all make good race seats for not all that much money. For hardcore competition, you will want the lightest, most rigid, and most serucely mounted seat that you can find.

If you are just starting out, some overstuffed bolsters will probably be the best for you, since the hundreds of dollars a racing seat will cost is usually better spend on suspension or an LSD, depending on what your preference is.

            I hope this helps!

I know a lot of guys that run SCCA events that use NEX seats, I talked with a few about them and everyone of them loved them so I purchased one for around 270 dollars and its a really good seat compare to some that i have come in contact with plus they are pretty light as far as a seat goes they come in at around 14lbs compared to my stock seats, thats much lighter.

I have heard that those carbon ebay seats are pretty good. Also there is a noname brand Japanese seat that is awesome i heard about it at ziptied.com. I think the Forza or forza 2 would be a good seat. Around 200 also.

I actually got my seat used. The back part of the seat has a little play in it, but it doesn't bother me. It does what it is supposed to do and that is to hold me. It was a cheap seat that I got off my buddy because I had no seat in my 240 because the leather was so tore up I ripped it out. It has been working good so far.

the 240 seats are terrible, they really are compared to an aftermarket bucket seat. I would say that this mod is actually more important than suspension. If you cant control yourself, how are you ever going to control the car, no matter how good it is setup. If you are sliding around, you have to plant your arm or brace yourself with the steering wheel, its hard to drive, let alone drift.

Totally right - even Z seats modified to fit are much better than the football bleecher-type 240 seats.

Make sure you're not buying a seat for the name. Go to some where like SUper autobacs and sit your tooshie in each sea they have there. I did that...and find out which on fits you best. Try moving around in it...
