  • drifting?

drfiting? i need clarification. what is the point of drifting. how can this even be related to a motorsport? how can it be juged? there is absolutly no order in this. is it the thrill of seeing someone almost wrecking their car. is it the thrill of wasting gas? speed and control do not come from being sideways u know.

can someone enlighten me of how this works

The point is to have fun. Why else do you have hobbies? This is considered a motorsport because 1. we use cars and 2. this is a sport (defined in the dictionary as an activity that is governed by a set of rules and often engaged in competitively). Competititons are judged subjectively by a panel of people based on a specific set of criteria. Drifting is generally dis-orderly, one of the reasons I love it. Wrecking your car is not recommended. Dont worry about the gas, worry about the tires. Speed and control can come from being sideways, if you dont believe it then watch a D1 video. Drifting is not faster than grip, but it is the ultimate exhibition of complete car control, and the speeds are quite high considering the loss of traction and asphalt surface (triple digit sometimes).

    hope that helped.

Obviously, you don't like the sport. So a simple solution would be to focus on the types of motorsports that you do understand and and enjoy. Drifting isn't for everyone.

Drifting is a racing technique. It is used in rally, figure 8, autocross, formula 1, and anything in the dirt with turns (w/ motocycles, trucks too). Its a technique that you lose traction in the corner without losing speed and you basically slide through the corner.

The point of the "sport" of drifting is to have fun and drive. Learning one of the ultimate car control.

How its judge is by a panel of prodrifters. They judge on angle of the drift, speed coming into the drift, the race line the drift is taking, and if it can be done smoothly.

Nobody likes it when a car is wrecked, its that last thing a specator would want to see in a drift competion, because there wont be any more drifting.

Whats sad is tons of people being fans of Nascar and only cheering when a car wrecks going around 190 mph, now thats sad.

In any motorsports you're wasting gas and are not trying to be fuel effiecent, so your comment is illrevelent compare to any motorsports. Unless you're doing marathons of hydro/electric/solar cars for econo of gas.

It is really car control... ask any pro in motorsports being able to keep speed in a racing drift, is ultimate control and precision.

But I also suggest..if you really want to learn about the sport or what it is, next time don't ask your questions rudely. You're coming off as arrogant in a sport you don't know nothing about. This forum is obviously about drifting, don't try to tick anyone off purposely for your lame humor.

Usually it's best not to even reply to trolls, but I think CrazyHawaiian put it best.

Crazy Hawaiian and Wicked Marz covered everything i was going to say.. So good job guys!

One thing i would like to add is people who dont know much about drifting look at it like its some kind of crazy exhibition where theres no control and everyone is very dangerous. However its really not the case, drifting is very very controled Actually watch the japanese drifters battling side by side and watch them change line and angle at the same time... Pretty awesome..

also in tandem runs the score is still subjective but there is usually a clear winner.

Is this thread a war yet? Well if it is, I say everyone should pull back...Newbies with only 1 post aren't worth the fight...

I dunno, if the judges have decided, I think that should be the final decision, there will always be more drifting.

often times the judges will call for a second run them selfs. One more time is just an extension of that, the chanting often starts up from what i've seen before the descision is final.

heh reminds me of Formula D, "one more time" did get kind of annoying, especially if one person clearly won!

Well, he at least posted in the correct thread. I don't think he's being trollish at all, just want's an explenation. In fact, it's probably the best attempt at someone who may not think Drifting is cool to try and understand it. Thanks to all that explained it to him. Maybe he will check it out further and not have a biased opinion of it because someone flamed him.

This is the way it should have been handled. Thumbs up.
