  • Help!

Im new to drifting. and my friends talked me into trying it so i did.

My problem is should i be pulling the handbrake to start the drift?
Every time i try to brake and downshift i stall and mess it up..
Should i just learn how to brake drift or do i need to practice the handbrake more? Please tel me what i should do.

I drive a 97 240sx sorta setup for drifting..but i dont know much about mechanics so i let my brother do whatever to the car.

Read Nissanguy_24's "Drifting 101" segments (linked in his signature)

The E-brake only works to break the rear loose if there is lateral force on the car (you are going around a turn), and you have to push in the clutch at the same time or else you'll be fighting the engine.

Also practice heel-toe to get better at downshifting (you can find a walkthrough on this and even movies showing it just by searching google).

If you've done all these and still need more help, the Drift Bible is only like $20 in the drifting.com E-store. If you still need help, go to some local events. If you still ned help, you're out of luck...

Rena, you need more seat time as far as I can tell.

How long have you had the car?
How familiar with it are you?
      Can you heel-toe?

If the answers are not long, not very, and not at all, then just practice driving the car. Don't push its limits, but do get a feel for what it does. Search heel-toe and read everything you find. Waste tanks upon tanks of gas learning what the car does when you do certain things and teaching yourself how to properly heel-toe. The time you spend behind the wheel is very valuable learning time.
