  • KA24DE Power

Just wondering if it was possible to get between 200-250 HP out a KA24DE without using a turbo. if it is possible than can someone please tell me what parts I would need but if its not than someone tell me please. Also which year 240SX came with 155 HP instead of 125?? HP. Thanks.

200- 250 hp out of a ka24de without forced induction... that will be rather dificult. You would have to do a lot of major work to make an extra 100 hp NA. IMO it would be cheaper to do an engine swap or turbo the ka.

edit: im pretty sure 1991 and newer 240sx's have the dohc engine, which would logicaly be more powerful than the sohc engine.

Dan- No, it's not even feasible NA. Don't even try, unless you have $10k+ burning a hole in your pocket.

The KA24E made 140hp and 152lb-ft of torque, and the KA24DE made 155hp and 160lb-ft of torque. The E was available from '89-90 and the DE from '91-98. (But only '91-95 were OBD1)

Not quite. Late '95 had more OBDII parts than the early '95's, all still OBDI, tho.

Out of a DE? The closest you'd be able to get without using forced induction would probably to build the high compression motor. SOHC block + DOHC head. Early estimates on that motor's power is about 200, although I've yet to see the dyno for it. With the SOHC motor, it is actually possible, but it'll cost you a fortune. Nissan motorsports has their parts line up on Courtey parts' website to build their motor. I've heard it revs to 12k, builds 250-300 and is still raced.

You can, but with the cost you could have a killer KA-T

Yeah but how hard would it be to combine the SOHC and the DOHC? And what would the compression be?? Also what kind of money are we talking about to make this motor work? Thanks.

SOHC pistons in a DOHC motor make it 11:1 compression. Shave the head and you can go higher, but then detonation becomes an issue.

The problem with making NA horsepower is the KA's long stroke. Horsepower needs revs, and the KA just can't handle high revs.

Here's the list of stuff that would be needed:
ARP head and main stud kit $289
                Valvesprings and retainers $319
                Valves $319
                Rods $689
                Injectors $289
                MAF $199
                ECU $250-500
                Headers $300
                Exhaust $250-1200
                Pistons $100
                Rebuild kit $289
                Port and Polish $500-1000
                Standalone $2300-4000
                Valve job $200
                Balancing $150-300
                Walbro 255lph pump $100

So, if we do the simple math, we come up with at least $6543 that you'll spend, for a maximum of 200whp. Sweet, that's like buying two SRs and turboing a KA.

                    KA24DE power

Im new at this but, yes i say buy the SR20DET and a get a boost controller. oh and dont forget that BOV (blow off valve) i would get either blitz or apexi...but the SR20 you can boost 8psi out of stock and from 205hp jumps to 250hp not sure about the torque though...have fun with the motor too...

for less than 2000 ( if you kow how a wrench works ) you can have a 250whp ka24de with custom turbo.

check out www.zilvia.net for a good knowledgebase to help answer your questions.

Also for 250whp, Sr20 is NOT cheap. That is a lie, we have compared over and over, a normal sr clip alone is more than enough for a ka-t that will blow it out of the water.

                      again go to www.zilvia.net

the KA24DE was also available in 89 because my S13 has that engine so im not sure if it was an option or something. If someone could answer that ? that would be great.

If you use standalone, you don't need the ecu...and Megasquirt standalone has been used with great success by lots of VW and Volvo owners and should run you about 400 to put together. If you drop a G on porting and polishing that usually includes a valve job...do guys do the fuel pump when they do SR swaps? If not then it will definately support 200 horse n/a...you're also going to need cams, which are not cheap for a DOHC motor. I'm going to guess high on the cams for this, because i'm too lazy to look them up.

I'm not a KA expert, but if you're thrifty it would read more like:

ARP head and main stud kit $289
                          Valvesprings and retainers $319

                          Injectors $289
                          Header $300
                          Exhaust $250
                          Pistons $100
                          Rebuild kit $289
Port and Polish, valve job, rebuild $1000
                          Standalone $400
                          Balancing $150-300
                          Cams $1000

Bringing us to what I feel is a more realistic $4776, although as with most estimates of this kind you will spend more then that.

Ummm... no. It was not available in '89. The '89-90 had KA24Es, not DEs. Yours was either swapped in, or you are mistaken.
